- He took to the stage one day after the DoJ unveiled 37 counts against him
Donald Trump was slammed over his ‘low energy’ and lack of his trademark energy during his speech in North Carolina on Saturday.
The former president, 76, spoke at both the state party convention in Greensboro and at a GOP convention in Columbus, Georgia – just one day after the Department of Justice unveiled 37 counts against him in his classified documents case.
During his back-to-back speeches, Trump was lacking his usual vigor and verve – and many who were in the audience and at home quickly noticed.
Some of those pointed out the differences between this campaign trail and his 2016 one, and queried whether the unusually-monotone president was phoning his performance in
Trump told the crowd in North Carolina: ‘In the end, they’re not coming after me, they’re coming after you, and I’m just standing in their way.

‘The baseless indictment of me by the Biden administration’s weaponized Department of In-Justice will go down as among the most horrific abuses of power in the history of our country.’
One person, who was in the room watching the North Carolina speech, told DailyMail.com afterwards: ‘He was like I’ve never seen him before.’
Another person from the crowd added: ‘I saw him in 2016 and 2020 and he was feeding a lot off the crowd then…maybe he was just tired.’
MAGA crowds cheering and chanting Trump’s name also saw a delay with his first standing ovation an hour into the event – when he mentioned critical race theory.
At previous rallies, he frequently received standing ovations from the moment he first appeared on stage to begin speaking.
The notion that Trump’s energy was low for the North Carolina event also swirled online – some believing it was because he’s ‘losing sleep’ over the indictment.
One person online said: ‘Trump looks really really bad. Just a tired sad old geezer & that constantly repeating yourself & fixated on things is a sign of early dementia. The Trump kids need to look for A Place For Dad.’
Another said: ‘Trump has been really low energy today.’
A third added: ‘Trump is giving perhaps his lowest energy speech of all time in North Carolina,’ while another claimed: ‘Trump 16 would be embarrassed by the Trump 24 campaign energy.’
And another one of Trump’s supporters said: ‘I’ve never seen a Trump rally with as little energy as the one today. Trump sounds exhausted.
‘Same made-up stories every time. Conspiracy peddling, division, and all the hits. Guess he’s losing sleep over this indictment. Don’t worry, Donny, there are several more coming!’
One person who had been watching the speech from home said: ‘Watching the local news tonight and they showed a Trump clip he sounds super low energy no enthusiasm what so ever.’
Another person noted: ‘Super cringe and low energy. This is not 2016 Trump.’
Meanwhile, former Vice President Mike Pence said Saturday that he has read the indictment outlining federal charges against former President Donald Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case.
He declined to share his personal reaction to the content of the indictment – which includes photographs of boxes with classified information stacked in a bathroom and on a ballroom stage, or to criticize Trump, whom he is challenging for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.
‘I’ve read the indictment,’ Pence said in an interview with Associated Press in North Carolina, where he addressed state Republicans.
Former Vice President Mike Pence said Saturday that he has read the indictment outlining federal charges against former President Donald Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case
It claims he stored the documents – 184 of which contained classified information in a ballroom and bathroom at his resort, among other places
‘I also know that every American´s entitled to the presumption of innocence. And as I said today, we now know the Department of Justice´s view of these matters. But the former president is entitled to present his defense. And we don´t know what the facts of that are.’
‘That’s why I said today I´m going to urge patience, encourage people to be prayerful for the former president, but also for all those in authority and for the country going forward,’ said Pence, who formally launched his 2024 campaign this week.
This comes after Trump said he will continue his 2024 White House run even if he’s convicted of illegally keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home.
The former president, 76, vowed to ‘never leave’ the political sphere as he continues on with his campaign to get on the Republican ticket for the next election.
Trump told Politico on board his plane today: ‘I’ll never leave. Look, if I would have left, I would have left prior to the original race in 2016. That was a rough one. In theory that was not doable.’
Even if Trump theoretically became a convicted felon or went to prison, he would not be legally prohibited from running for president.
And he confirmed that a conviction would not slow him in his tracks during his 2024 campaign.
As of June 9, Trump is still the polling favorite among the Republican candidates – with a 32 point clearance from second place, Ron DeSantis.
Trump also made a dig against the people lodging the charges against him today, adding: ‘These are thugs and degenerates..are after me’ as he continued to steadfastly argue his innocence.
Donald Trump made his first public appearance since the documents in his indictment were unsealed in Georgia
A photo, published by the U.S. Justice Department, shows boxes of documents stored in a bathroom at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida in early 2021
He told Politico: ‘I don’t want to be indicted. I’ve never been indicted. I went through my whole life, now I get indicted every two months. It’s been political.’
Trump also appeared in Georgia today after it was reveal that Trump left classified documents scattered across his bathroom and the Mar-a-Lago ballroom stage and bragged to aides about taking military secrets, according to the stunning indictment unsealed by the Department of Justice on Friday.
Extraordinary photos revealed in the damning filing lay out claims that Trump valet Walt Nauta walked into a storage room and found ‘Five Eyes’ intelligence files on allies including the United Kingdom and Australia spilled on the floor.

The ex-president lamented that President Joe Biden had more boxes of materials that he should not have taken from the White House in his possession, and said the DOJ is refusing to investigate that.
Of the 37 charges, 31 counts are of Willful Retention of National Defense Information under the Espionage Act. He will appear in a Miami court on Tuesday afternoon and has already said he will plead not guilty.
The details laid out are far more damning than first thought, and could land Trump in serious legal peril with a potential of decades in prison if he is convicted.
Today in Georgia, Trump attacked the ‘corrupt’ and ‘weaponized’ Justice Department, telling the rally: ‘Every time I fly over a blue state I get a subpoena.’
‘We want him before a grand jury,’ Trump said in a voice mimicking Democrats who want to see him behind bars.
‘The only good thing about it is that it’s driven my poll numbers way up, can you believe it?’ he half-joked.
Rep. Greene, invited onto stage by Trump during his speech, said: ‘This is something that you know, this is something that I know – President Trump is beating Biden in poll after poll after poll.’
‘Let’s get Trump back in the White House for four more years’ she told the crowd as they broke out into a chant of ‘four more years.’
He remains the Republican frontrunner, and sits 34 points ahead of his main competitor Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to a five thirty eight poll.
