FUMING residents have slammed plans to open a Burger King in their city centre – claiming that it will put off better shops.
Locals in Sheffield said letting the fast-food chain set up shop would turn the city into the "scoffing centre of Yorkshire".
Burger King currently plans to open a branch in a former high-street Pret a Manger near the city's cathedral.
Stephen Green told the Star: "There is already a McDonald's and Wendy’s on High Street opposite and a German Doner Kebab.
"Is this the image Sheffield would like for prospective visitors? Reinvention as the scoffing centre of Yorkshire?
"You’ll also need another 10 waste bins in this area and hope that they're used.

"I’m not trying to be a snob, but it attracts the wrong king of people.
"They’re supposed to be trying to improve Fargate and attract a better class of shops, this is a backwards step.
"The area needs a revamp completely, it’s just not a good look."
Burger King said it is hiring 30 workers to staff the branch, which is being opened as part of a £15m revamp of Sheffield's Fargate area.

The once-thriving high street has fallen on hard times recently, with a third of shops now empty.
Greg Fell, Sheffield Council's public health director, said: "Obesity is a national issue, and one which we are committed to tackling here in Sheffield.
"Sheffield City Council’s Food Strategy has areas of action to help create healthier food environments and enable people to make healthier choices.
"The Food Strategy will be taken into consideration in all areas of business for the council."
It comes after furious residents said their picturesque seaside town has been ruined by an 'eyesore' road – making it look like something out of the Wizard of Oz.
Neighbours have also slammed a new "Bond villain" house which they say has ruined their area.
