AS season three of Outer Banks hit screens around the world, memories of late Alexander "AJ" Jennings tugged the heartstrings of fans.

In 2022, the stand-in actor was tragically killed in a hit-and-run in Charleston, South Carolina.

Who was Alexander "AJ" Jennings?

Alexander "AJ" Jennings was a 22-year-old native of upstate New York and an upcoming actor.

He resided in South Carolina while filming season three of the Netflix show Outer Banks.

His role on the show was to stand in as a body double for the main male character, played by actor Chase Stokes.

What was his cause of death?

According to the Charleston County Police Department, AJ died after being struck by two different cars as he walked along the road on James Island.

The Island is about a ten minute drive from downtown Charleston.

Medics took AJ to the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was pronounced dead.

The accident was reported at around 2.30am local time on July 5, 2022.

Both cars reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.

Have any charges been filed?

Police located the second car's driver who allegedly hit AJ during a routine traffic stop in downtown Charleston.

According to Post and Courier, 22-year-old Nicholas Ashton Virgil Price was charged in July, 2022, with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.

Authorities claimed Price, a resident of Little Mountain, was driving the second vehicle that struck Jennings.

At a preliminary hearing on January 18, 2023, Magistrate James B. Gosnell Jr. ruled there was probable cause in the case.

The first car's driver has still not been identified.

The Charleston County Police urge anyone with information about the hit-and-run to come forward.

Chase Stokes, who played the character that AJ stood in for, posted a heartfelt tribute to him on his Instagram stories.

His post read: "Still trying to process why certain things happen, and why the world works in the ways that it does.

"My heart is shattered. Your life was just starting. We JUST talked about how pumped you were about your tunes, how far you'd come with that ole 6 string and your want to keep creating art.

"Always always making others hearts warm and being so damn selfless."
