A 42-year-old Wisconsin woman was killed in a car crash five hours after burying her husband.
Sara Nowak had just attended the funeral for her husband, Louis Nowak, when she was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night on State Highway 106 near Calkins Road in Palmyra.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then entered a ditch and overturned. One occupant was ejected from the vehicle, but both died at the scene, Jefferson County Sheriff Paul Milbrath told People.
Louis Nowak, who died on March 19 of cancer, had been married to Sara for six years, and shared six children together, CBS 58 reported.
‘I don’t think she could be without him,’ Sara’s grieving mother Patricia Cartwright told the news outlet, ‘So, she is with him.’

‘It’s really hard because you get done and then five and half hours later, you get a call saying that your daughter was in an accident,’ he said.
Sara’s parents said the past six months had been harrowing for their daughter, who cared for her husband, as he was battling the disease.
‘He fought, he fought really hard,’ Cartwright said about his son-in-law Louis.
He described his daughter as a positive person.
‘Whenever there was something that somebody needed,’ Cartwright said his daughter would say, ‘Don’t worry we got this.’
When Sara’s husband was first diagnosed with cancer in February 2022, her friend Kathy Palmer created a GoFundMe to help raise funds for him.
