Police are searching for a driver who allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle in Melbourne’s northern suburbs before fleeing the scene, leaving one woman dead and injuring three others.
Emergency services were called to Mahoneys Road in Thomastown at about 1.10am on Sunday after an allegedly stolen Kia Cerato collided with a Mercedes SUV.
A woman travelling in the Kia was given CPR by police and paramedics following the crash, but could not be revived.
Detectives from the major collision investigation unit believe the driver of the Kia fled the scene before police arrived.
Three others were taken to hospital with injuries following the collision – a man and a woman who were travelling in the Mercedes, and another woman who was a passenger in the Kia.
A spokesman for Victoria Police said Mahoneys Road is expected to remain closed until late Sunday morning “while the scene is examined”.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, with information or dashcam vision is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or log onto www.crimmestopersvic.com.au.
