- The 28 acre park is billed as the UK’s first ‘city-based wellbeing resort’
Work has begun on a new £250 million indoor waterpark for Britain’s first all-season indoor beach which will feature 35 slides along with swim-up bars, water lagoons and an adult-only section.
Having been first confirmed in 2020, the park, called Therme Manchester, is set to open in 2025 now that construction has started.
It was originally set to open in late 2023, but the date was pushed back two years following revised plans that were submitted in the summer of 2022.
Based outside of the Trafford Centre on the Event City site, it is expected to attract up to two million visitors per year within the first five years, which would make it the most-visited ‘water-based attraction’ in Europe.
The park, which is being billed as the UK’s first ‘city-based wellbeing resort’, will cover 28 acres – which is the size of 19 football pitches.

The centre will have more than 35 water slides and 25 pools, as well as more than 30 saunas and steam rooms. It spans 28 acres — the size of 19 football pitches
Inside, there will be 25 swimming pools for all ages, as well as a wave pool, 35 waterslides, and an all-season indoor beach.
For those looking to visit without children, they can head to the adult-only section which will have swim-up bars, water lagoons and more than 30 steam rooms and saunas.

There will also be a daily programme of water-based fitness classes as well as yoga, pilates and meditation sessions.
According to the plans, a wide range of well-being treatments will also be available as well as advanced body scanners and skilled therapists.
Additionally, the waterpark will offer a range of bars, cafés and restaurants ‘offering everything from snacks and light bites to à la carte service’.
James Whittaker, Peel L&P’s executive director of development told The Sun: ‘Therme Manchester is a landmark development for the North and something the UK has never seen before.
‘It’s incredibly exciting to see the land being prepared to welcome the resort to TraffordCity and we’re proud to help bring such an amazing attraction to the North West which we know will be enjoyed by so many people across the country whether it’s for a fun family day out, relaxation or educational trips.’
The site will also have a visitor and education centre designed for school and community groups. It has been included in a bid to teach people about health, sustainability, food and nature.
The park will include the world’s first living water slide and ‘immersive digital art, an on-site farm and botanical gardens’

However, the focal point of the project will be a two-acre well-being garden in the shape of a rose – this was built with the intention of connecting guests to nature.
The developer, the Therme Group, aids that thousands of plants and trees will be incorporated into Therme Manchester’s natural environment, which will be ‘created by world-leading designers, artists, architects and engineers to achieve the highest levels of experience, quality and sustainability’.
The group previously explained: ‘This bio-diverse garden for all seasons will be an evolving work of art, with petal-shaped terraces and beautiful pools and water features. It will act as a focal point for socialising, learning and discovery.’
