Squigs Beauty’s Double Shot Face Serum Deeply Hydrates My Sensitive Skin

It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that I now have sensitive skin. I can’t overindulge in exfoliants and retinol without breaking out, causing a rash, and damaging my skin’s moisture barrier. I had to learn to rely on hydrating and calming products just as much as my actives. The editor-favorite Squigs Beauty Gooseberry Delight Hair Oil has done wonders for my hair, so I had to try out the brand’s Double Shot Face Serum ($28), a hydrating serum meant for those with sensitive skin. And just like the hair oil, the more I use the Double Shot Face Serum, the more I fall in love with it.

What I Like About the Squigs Beauty Double Shot Face Serum:

The Squigs Beauty Double Shot Face Serum brings the fun back into my skin-care routine. The bi-phase formula combines an oil-based blue serum with a water-based clear serum for a unique streamlined serum that provides your skin with deep hydration, balance and repair, and a healthy glow. All you need to do is shake it up, add a few drops to the palm of your hands, and gently press and massage the product into your skin. It’s packed with both hydrating and moisturizing ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, strawberry-seed oil, jojoba-seed oil, avocado oil, glycerin, and squalane. The serum does not just sit on my face; it provides layers of hydration that sink into the skin for a conditioned feel and a plump appearance. I instantly see a radiance that makes my skin look healthy and nourished. Not only is the formula so soothing and calming on my skin but so is watching the oil-based blue part of the serum float back to the top.

I love using this on days when I use an exfoliating treatment or a mask, retinol, or when I inevitably wreck my skin’s moisture barrier. (So, pretty much all the time.) One of my biggest skin concerns is fading my hyperpigmentation and dark spots. The actives and treatments needed to address those concerns take a toll on my sensitive skin. Having niacinamide in this formula helps fade those dark spots while preventing breakouts while being gentle and calming. As someone with easily reactive skin, I loved that the formula contains anti-inflammatory ingredients like turmeric, tulsi, and neem, which help prevent and heal irritation.

What’s Worth Noting About the Squigs Beauty Double Shot Face Serum:

The unique bi-phase oil-based and water-based formulation of the Double Shot Face Serum provide multilayer hydration benefits. If you like to layer serums in your skin-care routine as I do, I found it’s best to follow the thinnest to thickest rule. Use water-based products with a thinner consistency, like essences and toners, first, and then use the Double Shot Face Serum, and follow it up with a moisturizer or facial oil. With this serum, I like using more lightweight and watery serums first, then layer on the Double Shot Face Serum. When I’m using a serum that is creamy and thick in consistency, I like to use the Double Shot Face Serum first, and let it sink in.

Who Is the Squigs Beauty Double Shot Face Serum Best For:

The Squigs Beauty Double Shot Face Serum is great for all skin types, including those with sensitive and reactive skin types. If your skin leans more dry and dehydrated, the bi-phase formulation provides your skin with a burst of hydration and moisture in just a few drops. It’s both deeply hydrating yet lightweight and nonsticky, making it a balancing treat for those with oily or combination skin as well. Depending on your skin type, you can skip out on a moisturizer, essences, or other serums to keep your routine streamlined.
