  • Lip “blosses,” a hybrid of balm and gloss, are trending.
  • Sunnies Face’s Lip Treat is the perfect example of a bloss.
  • Our editor tested three shades of the brand’s lip tint and is sharing photos.

Glossy lip products are having a moment right now, but not just your traditional lip-gloss formulas. “Blosses” are the hybrid product everyone is talking about, which combine the hydration of a lip balm with the shine of a lip gloss. My new favorite example of the trend: the Sunnies Face Lip Treat ($16).

Before we get into why the Sunnies Face lip tints are worth the buy, let’s dive a bit deeper into the bloss makeup trend. “The bloss is a multitasking ‘gloss meets balm’ that’s perfect for summer because it adds a light splash of color and keeps your lips hydrated and moisturized,” Jamie Greenberg, celebrity makeup artist and founder of Jamie Makeup, previously told POPSUGAR. A bloss embodies everything you want summer makeup to be: effortless, hydrating, fun, and glowy.

Now, back to the Lip Treat. Sunnies Face, a Filipino-owned makeup brand that only recently became available in the US, hit the nail on the head with this name — it truly is a treat for your lips. Available in seven shades, including one clear version, the formula is infused with two all-star ingredients: shea butter for moisture and collagen to plump.

Though the description touts it as a balm, I’d compare the high-shine finish to a bloss. Unlike a true gloss, it’s not at all sticky; instead, it feels silky smooth and comforting. A single swipe of the lip treatment coats your lips with a sheer coat of color, but if you apply multiple layers, you can achieve a deeper saturation of pigment that still feels lightweight.

The seven shades of the Sunnies Face Lip Treat are Chill, a natural beige; Sakura, a warm pink; Girl Crush, a terracotta rose; Juice, a berry rose; Poppy, a bright tangerine; Chai, a warm chestnut; and Jellyfish, a creamy clear. There’s a shade for every makeup style, and the colors complement all skin tones.

After testing all of the colors, I found three favorites that I’ve been wearing on repeat. To me, Sakura is a great barely there color for every day; Chia is a bit moodier and offers a touch of drama; and Girl Crush provides that juicy, bitten lip look you can throw on to make a statement.

It’s hard to pick one favorite shade, but priced at just $16, you don’t have to. I have been keeping one on my desk at all times and apply — and reapply — constantly throughout the day. Whether I’m going to an in-person meeting or just hopping on a Zoom call, it’s like the cherry on top of my minimal makeup look.
