Adam Thomas’ restaurant ‘goes bust’ with debts of almost £300k – as star ‘joins Strictly’

Adam Thomas’ restaurant business has 'gone bust' with debts of almost £300,000, according to reports.

The Waterloo Road and former Emmerdale actor, 34, set up Manchester-based eatery The Spinn in September 2019 but it was hit by Covid-19 lockdown restrictions the following year, according to The Sun. His company – Gatley Bar and Grill Ltd – was also set up in 2019 to handle the finances for the restaurant but it's said that, according to its balance sheet as of March 2022, it has debts of £293,996 – including £70,000 in tax and almost £50,000 in bank loans.

The business had reportedly employed 12 people but was boarded up last year. It was said locals wondered if it had closed for refurbishment.

But now it has emerged a liquidator has formally been appointed to wind up the firm.

OK! has approached Adam’s representatives for comment.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Strictly Come Dancing bosses were set to sign up Adam for the new season. The actor, best known for his role of Adam Barton on ITV’s Emmerdale, is part of a trio of famous siblings with twin brother Scott Thomas being a former Love Islander and older brother Ryan Thomas, 39, previously acting in Coronation Street.

An insider told The Sun: “After two decades on screen and, as one of the Thomas brothers, he instantly brings a huge fanbase. That’s what Strictly bosses love.

“Producers also see him as someone who can fill the young hunk role, which is important and often sees them pick soap stars.”

Adam, who started his career playing troublesome school boy Donte Charles on Waterloo Road, is also known for coming third in 2016’s edition of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! He has previously addressed rumours that he was taking part in Strictly when he joked: “Bring it all on. I love a bit of glitz and glam.”

It comes after Adam, speaking on Lorraine earlier this year, teased a potential return to Emmerdale following his recent comeback on Waterloo Road. "You genuinely do become such a huge family and yeah, I miss them all so much," he said of the Emmerdale cast.

"So look, never say never. I would love to go back one day."

Adam made his return as Donte Charles on the reboot of hit BBC One series, Waterloo Road, where on-screen wife Chlo (Katie Griffiths) was killed off in the first episode.

At the end of last year, he revealed that, after quitting Emmerdale in 2018, he hit a lean period and admitted he would worry where his next paycheck would come from.

Fortunately, he says returning to Waterloo Road has “brought stability” to his family life, revealing: “I felt like I could breathe.”

Adam is married to Caroline Daly, with the two sharing daughter Elsie-Rose, five, and son Teddy, eight.
