Alison Hammondhas spoken of how her niece is being treated in hospital – praising the “absolutely amazing” NHS staff caring for her.

The TV presenter shared the news about Jasmine onThis Morningon Friday as she appeared alongside co-hostDermot O'Leary ,Carol Vordermanand LBC broadcaster Nick Ferrari.

The stars were discussing a lack of trust in the NHS, when Alison stepped in to say she had been "back and forth" to the hospital to see her niece.

Alison said: "I have to say, I have to caveat this, my little niece is in hospital at the moment.

"She is doing really well, by the way. I have been going back and forward. I definitely need to say that the NHS staff…. they have been absolutely amazing."

Dermot replied: "Extraordinary aren't they?"

Alison said: "She has been treated absolutely amazingly."

The Birmingham mother-of-one then gave a shout-out to her niece, saying: “Hi Jasmine.”

Nick praised the staff, too, while Carol sent her best wishes as well.

Alison’s niece Jasmine was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease when she was three years old and was left fighting for her life after she collapsed at school nine years later.

Kawasaki disease is a condition that mainly affects children under the age of five. It causes blood vessels to become inflamed and swollen, which can lead to heart complications.

Because of this, Kawasaki disease is one of the main causes of acquired heart disease in children under five in the UK.

Speaking previously, Alison said her niece had always been “poorly”, but nothing could have prepared her for what was to come.

Speaking in 2012 about how Jasmine collapsed at school, Alison told theMirror: “She was the sickest girl in the UK at that point, so she went straight to the top of the list to get a new heart.”

She added: "We are a very close family. I love Jasmine so much, and to see her get sick like that was a horrible shock."

Luckily, Jasmine received the transplant she needed and made a remarkable recovery. Alison told how she and her family put themselves on the organ donor list because she had seen how it can “save and transform lives”.

Recently, Alison addressed reports that she is engaged to herboyfriend Ben Hawkinsduring an episode of This Morning.

As wedding bells rang out in the studio, Dermot said: "Alison, I can't believe you didn't tell us that you are going to get married! This is the most amazing… I read it in the papers!"

However, Alison soon set the record straight and told her co-host that the engagement reports were, in fact, not true.
