Amy Dowden revealed she received "tough love" about her desire to have children following her diagnosis of stage three breast cancer.
The Strictly Come Dancing star, 33, has lifted the lid on the words of wisdom she received from her former dance teacher after she debated another round of chemotherapy during her breast cancer battle.
The professional dancer admitted her first reaction to having chemotherapy was to "refuse it" but after a reality talk with her former dance teacher, she knew it was the right thing to do.
Amy received the news she had breast cancer back in May and has been keeping her followers updated on her journey ever since.
In an interview with The Mirror, Amy opened up about the "tough love" she received that helped her push through and undergo a round of gruelling chemotherapy treatment.
It was related to Amy undergoing IVF to create and freeze embryos before starting treatment, hoping that she and Ben might still have children in the future.
The dancer told the publication: "She gave me tough love and said, 'what’s the point of these embryos if you’re not going to have chemo? Because you won’t be around to have these babies anyway'."
The star is now on her fifth round of chemotherapy but initially she wanted to refuse it. She said: "I thought that’s Strictly with a partner wiped out, that’s my hair gone, that’s my life gone. I was like, I don’t want to do that.
"I was pretty adamant up until the day before, I had a meltdown, a crying fit going 'I don’t want to do it'."
After undergoing a mastectomy, Amy started fertility treatment as a result of her heartbreaking diagnosis.
The Welsh ballroom and Latin star underwent a single mastectomy in June and has gone on to have five rounds of chemotherapy to treat the disease.
In September, Amy emotionally revealed that she had decided to shave her head amid continued chemotherapy.
She explained that it was the "hardest step so far" as she let some of her family cut some of her hair before a hairdresser shaved the remainder off.
Amy previously opened up on how her first and second cycles of chemo ended up with emergency hospital stays and life-threatening complications. First she suffered from sepsis and secondly with blood clots.
She discovered a lump in her breast a day before she went on her honeymoon in April, a belated trip following her 2022 marriage to Ben, with whom she won the British National Latin Dance Championships.
She had only just begun checking herself, following a charity trek with the breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!
Doctors removed three tumours and further cancer "specks", plus some lymph nodes from her right breast, during the surgery in June. But afterwards she received more bad news.
Medics had discovered a second type of breast cancer in the tissue they removed, and more tumours, including one close to her chest, as well as specks in her other breast.
But, despite her ongoing cancer journey, Amy has admitted that she still has dreams of dancing on the Strictly dance floor again.
During the launch show on Saturday, 30 September, the Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers and judges performed a dance in honour of their "Welsh dragon" Amy.
