Angela Scanlon given ‘poor advice’ from Strictly pal as he predicts her fate

Strictly: Angela Scanlon impresses Shirley with first dance

Angela Scanlon’s friend Scott Mills has high hopes for her winning Strictly Come Dancing’s Glitterball trophy, but admits he wasn’t the best at passing on advice before she made her dance floor debut.

The BBC Radio 2 host took part in Strictly back in 2014, and performed with professional dancer Joanne Clifton.

Nine years on, his friend Angela, 39, is competing for the win with her dance partner Carlos Gu, and he couldn’t be more proud.

Earlier this month, the dancing duo topped the leaderboard after an impressive Charleston routine scored them 35 points.

Now, Scott believes Angela could go all the way in a final he predicts could feature her, alongside Bobby Brazier and Angela Rippon.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the presenter said of offering his advice: “You have a feeling of the unknown when you sign up to that show because you’ve never done it.

“The first thing you want to do, instinctively, is talk to someone who has been on it and has had the experience.

“So, she was messaging me like, ‘What’s it like? Oh God’.”

But while he seemed like the perfect person to ask for advice, Scott, 50, admitted he was in fact the opposite.

He spilled: “The trouble is, you can’t explain it to anyone. I’ve tried so many times over the years, I tried with Clara Amfo (2020 contestant), she rang me when she did it and said, ‘What’s it like?’

“You can’t explain it, it’s such a lot, I wish I could explain the experience to someone else.

“But once they’re in it, I know she’s loving it, she could win, I think. We love Angela a lot.”

Tonight, Angela and Carlos will be dancing the American Smooth to Cherish by Madonna.

Last weekend, the presenter impressed viewers with her Viennese Waltz technique to the sound of You Are the Reason by Calum Scott & Leona Lewis.

The dancing duo scored 28 points from the judges after all four awarded seven for their efforts.

Scott will make his pantomime debut alongside X Factor winner Sam Bailey, A1’s Mark Read and comedian Jarred Christmas this festive season.

The cast will take to the stage in Leicester’s giant family pantomime Jack and The Beanstalk at Demontfort Hall from December 15 to January 7.
