Ant and Dec’s Coronation laughing fit has fans thinking it’s one of their iconic TV pranks

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly struggled to contain their laughter on Saturday as they attended King Charles' Westminster Abbey Coronation.

The Geordie presenting duo, who were amongst the high-profile variety of guests, could be seen stifling fits of laughter inside the church while the new monarch was officially crowned.

Broadcasting live on BBC One, the camera panned to the presenters as Ant looked away from his pal and held back a smile, while Dec appeared to be gritting his teeth to remain composed.

Providing a laugh to viewers at home, many were convinced that the royal moment was another one of their infamous pranks as it reminded them of scenes from their popular segment 'Get Out My Ear'.

One viewer joked on Twitter: "Right time to liven this up! Ant and Dec over to you with a coronation special of 'get out of me ear'".

While another added: "Ant & Dec looked like they were having fun this morning."

Others could relate to the duo, admitting: "You see the problem with me is I would have seen Ant & Dec and burst out laughing! #CoronationDay".

The stars are just two of the lucky 2,200 guests who were invited to experience the prestigious ceremony in person, while millions of viewers tuned in to the televised proceedings around the world.

Other celebrities on the guest list included Katy Perry, Emma Thompson, Dame Judi Dench, Lionel Richie, David and Victoria Beckham and Nick Cave.

But all the stars had to abide to strict rules inside the ceremony, with conversation requested to be limited while sniffer dogs patrolling the area around the abbey.

The use of cameras, video or sound recording equipment were also not permitted during the ceremony – which commences at 11am – and mobile photos and other electronic devices must be switched off.

Ahead of going into the ceremony, Ant and Dec were stopped outside by Charlene White as she asked them to spill some secrets ahead of the historic day.

Catching up with the Loose Women star, the pair shared details of a hilarious moment during their stay at Dumfries House – Charles’ house in Scotland.

Ant and Dec revealed they bumped into the King, 74, during their sleepover at the house.

Ant and Dec recalled a project they worked on with Charles back in 2016 where they followed the monarch – who was then the Prince of Wales – "around for a year". And during filming they got to stay overnight at Charles' Scottish home.

Dec said: "We thought we'd be in a wing somewhere down the end of the estate, but we got there and we got inside and our bedrooms were next door to his.

"So we were literally in the next door bedroom, which meant we had to keep the noise down a bit – not that we're noisy – but you had an encounter with him on the stairs."

Ant then continued: "I walked out the door at one point and I thought, 'Well, it's not like we're going to bump into him' and I walked out of the door and he was there with a pair of secateurs.

"And I was like, 'Hi' and then he goes, 'One finds it's always best if one prunes the roses oneself, don't you find?' and I said, 'Absolutely'.

He added: "But, yeah, we had no idea we were going to be next door, so that was a delight."
