Ariana Grande claims fans ‘bullied’ her over ‘horrible’ debut album artwork

Ariana Grande reveals to fans why she changed her album cover

Ariana Grande claims fans “bullied” her into changing the image on her album cover Yours Truly.

To celebrate the “spectacular” 10th anniversary of her debut record, Ariana, 30, re-released the 2013 album late last week.

However, in a recently conducted question-and-answer session with fans, the 7 Rings singer admitted she originally felt pressured to change the cover art.

In a video posted to TikTok on Monday (28 August), she replied to a question asking: “Mother what made you change the cover from this to the released one?” and said the original Yours Truly cover was “horrible”.

“It’s not horrible,” she backtracked before saying “(but) you were right. You were very angry when you saw it.”

“I was very sad about that, and I changed it. You were right, but you’re not always right.

During the clip, she also showed a picture of the original artwork and stated fans had been “consistently” bullying her about Yours Truly for the “past 10 years”.

“You hated it, you were like, ‘This is f****** ugly, mom, change it. So I did.”

Following the bullying claims, Ariana then discussed how the backlash has seemingly made a lasting impression on her.

“Sometimes it works,” she said about the creative process. “Sometimes it leaves me with wounds that make me question everything I’ve done since.

“Just kidding,” she added before ploughing on with the Q&A session.

The original cover art for Yours Truly saw Ariana, then 20, sitting on a bed of pink roses – wearing a pair of white sheer stockings and a frilly white bandeau dress.

However, after backlash, she eventually changed the cover to a black-and-white image of herself featuring her signature high ponytail.

Now, for the 10th anniversary of Yours Truly, the singer-songwriter has once again updated the cover image.

This time, the star has opted for a blurred picture of herself in a plunging black dress. She is also pictured smiling while wearing her long hair loose.

Interestingly, the original cover image wasn’t the only asset Ariana scrapped in the lead-up to Yours Truly’s release.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the time, the Positions singer revealed she originally had plans to release a record called Daydreamin’.

Ariana said: “I recorded an entire album that is no longer the album”. She also stated that she eventually scrapped the album so that she could “find where I wanted to be musically.”
