BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Angela Rippon says medics rushed in stop the blood

Strictly: Tess rushes to help Angela after wardrobe malfunction

Angela Rippon revealed her leg was bleeding moments before taking to the dancefloor.

The Strictly star opened up about the “drama” behind the scenes as her rumba routine was almost sabotaged after a last-minute injury.

Writing in her latest column for The Telegraph, the Rip Off Britain presenter revealed things didn’t exactly go to plan during last Saturday’s live show.

In a last-minute rehearsal Angela, 79, just five minutes before she was due to perform with dancer partner Kai Widdrington, her foot got stuck on a sticky patch on the floor.

“When I looked down, my leg was bleeding from a cut on my right shin,” she wrote. “The razor-sharp edge of my high-heeled dance shoe had sliced off a bit of flesh while I was doing a twisting manoeuvre. Oh no!”

She added: “The medic was called.”

The Strictly star admitted she was grateful Nigel Harman and Katya Jones as well as Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu were due to perform so she was able to bide some time to receive medical assistance.

“No one in the audience, including the judges, had a clue about what was unfolding backstage,” Angela commented.

She revealed the wardrobe department had to rip off her tights and the medics were “staunching the blood” as a plaster was placed over the large cut.

Even the make-up artist had to cover up her injury with concealer in a bid to camouflage the plaster.

The legendary presenter then had to be cut out of the skirt she was wearing, before being able to pull up a fresh pair of tights, and then stitched back into her costume.

Angela praised Kai who tried to reassure her that everything would work out in the moments before taking to the stage.

Her comments come after she suffered a “wardrobe malfunction” after they wowed the judges with their sensual rumba.

Right at the end of the dance, Angela’s shoe nearly came off on the dance floor as she walked over to Tess Daly and Kai rushed to the rescue and fixed it for her.

The dancing duo performed the Rumba to Conchita Wurst’s tune Rise Like a Phoenix scoring an impressive 31 out of 40 on the night.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday on BBC One at 6.35pm.
