Boyzones Keith Duffy hits out as scammers target autistic daughter leaving her anxious

The former Boyzone star Keith Duffy has been appealing for help on social media after his daughter's Instagram account was hacked and messages were sent to people pretending to be from her.

Scammers took control of Mia Duffy's, 23, account and sent messages to followers pretending to be from her – Keith says this has left his daughter with a lot of anxiety and stress.

From the age of 18-months-old, Mia has been diagnosed with autism which he says has meant this situation has left her feeling even more concerned.

Following the technical issue, Keith has been seeking help to get her Instagram back up and running in her hands and has sought the help of other users to see if they can get rid of the scammers.

Urging followers to ignore messages from Mia on the platform, Keith wrote: "URGENT TO ANYONE WHO RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM MY DAUGHTER MIA’S ACCOUNT PLEASE BE AWARE HER ACCOUNT HAS BEEN HACKED AND SCAMMERS ARE SENDING MESSAGES PRETENDING TO BE HER.


"Please report and ignore all messages. Mia is very private and this has really upset her and caused a lot of stress and anxiety."

In response, Mia has received a lot of help and support from followers with many saying how isolating it can be when hackers target your account.

One person wrote: "Hope Mia is alright and they get it sorted soon for her."

While another stated: "Absolutely sucks how many people are getting their accounts hacked and seems your only safety is to buy a blue tick. I hope it gets sorted for her ASAP x”.

A third of his followers penned: “Aww bless her it must have been very frightening to have this happen. I was scammed recently and it certainly shakes you up and makes you question everyone.”

when his daughter graduated from Dublin City University last summer with Honours and thanked all his fans who were supporting the family throughout the process.

The former Boyzone star shared on Instagram: "To all who have followed our story for over 20 years Today marks the biggest milestone ever. Mia Graduating from Dublin City University with honours. A day we were made to believe would never happen.

“We are blessed for all your support and that Mia was given every opportunity to reach her full potential only by never taking ‘No’ for an answer from anyone along the way. We are the proudest parents in the world.

"Mia herself has always pushed herself and worked hard to achieve her own Goals and continues to do so. Please take the positive from this and See believe and achieve! Yes you can yes we can."
