Charles and Camilla fly to Edinburgh for emotional journey accompanying Queen’s coffin

King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, have flown to Edinburgh ahead of the late Queen's coffin procession.

They boarded a plane to Edinburgh at RAF Northolt in Hillingdon, west London.

Charles and Camilla waved at dozens of members of the public as they arrived in a Rolls Royce with a police escort at about 11.15am on Monday.

The 96 year old Queen Elizabeth II passed away "peacefully" at Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire on Thursday, 8 September, before her coffin was taken to the throne room of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, where members of the public could come to pay their respects.

After a historic meeting with members of parliament in London this morning, King Charles has flown to Edinburgh to meet his siblings and take part in a solemn procession when the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II is taken to the city's historic St Giles' cathedral.


The Queen is expected to make her final journey back to London on Tuesday where she will lie in state in Westminster Hall from Wednesday.
