Antony Cotton, 47, has played Sean Telly on ITV’s Coronation Street since 2003, with the actor causing confusion today as he shared snaps from inside Westminster Abbey.

The actor described the “great honour” to be included in Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in a heartwarming post along with pictures.

He shared a picture of the Order of Service, in view of his 133,000 Instagram followers, along with the message: “Well…where to begin?! I had the greatest honour of being invited to Her Majesty’s funeral.

“So proud to see so many pals working on it, and making their Queen and country proud. It was a day I will never forget.”

“‘May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest…'”

Although many social media users praised the actor, others were confused as to why the soap star attended the funeral.

One social media user Twiggy1007 commented on Antony Cotton’s post: “What the f***.”

JoolyWooly69 said: “I’m sure you deserved this but it’s really distasteful to flaunt it with a photo and an image of the order of service, very tacky and undignified!”

JakeBryant added: “What the f*** are you doing there?”

Antony Cotton was awarded an MBE earlier this year from the late Queen for his services to the British Army, personnel and veterans.

Antony Cotton is also a patron for Help for Heroes and was not the only celebrity to attend the service. Killing Eve actress Sandra Oh was in attendance as part of the Canadian delegation as a member of the Order of Canada.
