David Beckham leads stars at funeral for Alex Ferguson’s wife Cathy

Former Manchester United stars David Beckham and Gary Neville attended the funeral for Sir Alex Ferguson’s wife, Cathy.

Sir Alex followed his late wife’s coffin out of the cathedral before shaking his hands with Canon Andrew McKenzie who conducted the service.

Ahead of the service, Beckham was seen leaving his hotel as the footballer looked smart in a black suit as he walked down the steps to his car.

Neville was also seen leaving the hotel in St Andrew’s prior to the ceremony.

Outside Beckham mingled with other mourners outside on the pavement opposite the River Clyde.

Onlookers watched on as Sir Alex was pictured chatting outside with family and friends for around ten minutes until he was picked up by a Mercedes with blacked-out windows.

Sir Alex, 81, met his late wife in 1964 when he was just 23 and playing with Dunfermline Athletic.

They married shortly after in 1966 shortly before his move to Rangers.

In his autobiography, Sir Alex wrote: “I had the good fortune to meet a wonderful girl who has been my rock for almost 50 years.”

The couple share three sons – Mark and twin boys Darren and Jason. They also have 12 grandchildren.
