Eamonn Holmes makes a brutal swipe at This Morning’s NTAs loss and being booed by the audience after they missed out on the Best Daytime prize

Eamonn Holmes took a savage swipe at his former show This Morning after they missed out on the Best Daytime prize at the National Television Awards on Tuesday.

The broadcaster, who has had a fraught relationship with ITV since he contracted ended in 2021, was quick to poke fun at the show’s loss after they were booed by the audience during the ceremony.

Appearing on his GB News breakfast show on Wednesday, Eamonn discussed The Repair’s Shops surprise win in the Daytime category with co-host Isabel Webster and guests Charlie Rowley and Scarlett MccGwire.

He quipped, ‘This Morning didn’t win anything yet again,’ while Isabel then noted the boos that rang around the Arena when the show’s nomination was announced.

Eamonn then joked: ‘Apparently the audience were just chanting, ”Bring back Eamonn”, and Scarlett responded, ‘Obviously Eamonn they are.’

War: The broadcaster, who has had a fraught relationship with ITV since he contracted ended, was quick to poke fun at the show’s loss (pictured with Holly, Phil and wife Ruth in 2013)

After discussing reports that Holly’s former This Morning co-host Phillip Schofield had unfollowed her on TikTok, Eamonn quipped: ‘I wonder why.’

‘And I mean, apparently, the This Morning people were devastated because God forbid there could be a better programme that actually won it. I don’t watch either, but I hear The Repair Shop is terribly good.’

Things then took an amusing turn when Eamonn held up a snap of Holly from the event, posing in her lilac gown.

‘Here’s a pose, I thought if someone says to me, ”Can we have a picture, Eamonn’ and you’re on the red carpet. You’re smiling or looking awkward or whatever it is…Holly Willoughby shows her bum,” he said, sparking laughter from his co-stars.

‘So the pictures are all of her… so what she does is, ”You want a picture?” and then she turns her backside round to the camera.

‘She’s obviously got a very expensive Couture gown and very neat tailoring of the fishtail and it emphasises her curves, of which she’s very proud. So there you go.

Ending the segment on lighter note, Eamonn joked: ‘I am doing that in future.’

Terrific trio: Holly posed for pictures with co-presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary

Eamonn has had a fraught relationship with ITV after he and his wife Ruth Langsford were controversially removed from This Morning in November 2021 after 15 years of service.

They were replaced by Friday hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

The GB news host has repeatedly criticised the alleged ‘abusive’ culture at This Morning – claiming he is standing up against ‘bad people’ in the workplace and speaking the truth.

And Eamonn hasn’t held back about Phillip Schofield’s confession of an affair with a much younger colleague.

He said at the time on GB News: ‘There’s a scene in a Few Good Men where Jack Nicholson shouts “you can’t handle the truth”. Well, I know the truth and I know what the truth is.

‘I know what I know and they [ITV] don’t seem to know a lot. People take sides on these things whether it’s the Boris business or the Phillip Schofield business. But people can’t handle the truth.’

Eamonn also repeated his demand ITV bosses make public the evidence for how their investigation into Schofield’s affair was carried out.

Holmes alleged ITV had known about Phillip’s ‘unwise, but not illegal’ affair with a younger male colleague, accusing the broadcaster of a ‘total cover up.’

He also claimed ‘those in authority had to know’ because the man was ferried between Phillip’s £1million home and the studios in taxis ‘paid for by ITV’.

He claimed: ‘Thursday was playtime when he and Phillip would hit the town and then he obviously stayed overnight. There are records to show that he was brought in the next day separately in cars paid for by ITV.’

The claims were categorically denied by the ITV chiefs and described as ‘defamatory’, while ITV managing director Kevin Lygo offered his own explosive response where he accused the GB News host of bitterness after he was axed from This Morning after 15 years on the sofa.

At The NTAs, This Morning waited to see if they’d won Best Daytime Award, the audience at the arena could be heard shouting and booing.

Host Jay Blades encouraged the crowd to cheer as the show’s team took to the stage at The O2 and took a picture of the moment as he noted it was a “rarity” for them to be winning the prize.

Blades thanked those who voted and the team behind the show, adding: ‘I would like to salute my experts, they are my family.’

He also praised his fellow nominees at This Morning, The Chase and Loose Women, saying: “We’re the new kids on the block ad I’m glad we’ve won this time.

‘I know it won’t be a regular thing so thank you.’
