Elton John reportedly opted to make an early dash after his headline performance at Glastonbury over the weekend. The 76 year old belted out a range of his most iconic songs, including Rocket Man, on the Pyramid stage this Sunday, but didn't stick around for long.
"He [Elton] hit the last note of Rocket Man, jumped in a golf cart with a giant E on it, drove down where an automobile was waiting for him and was whisked to the red gate where there was a helicopter," said Entertainment Correspondent Colin Paterson on BBC Breakfast.
He went on to explain that people had tracked Elton's helicopter, which took just over 30 minutes to get the pop legend from Somerset to his home in Windsor.
"Aviation nerds tracked that helicopter…it took him 39 minutes to get home to Windsor," Colin revealed. "The queues for the showers at Glastonbury are longer!"
Sir Elton John, who recently rushed to the defence of Phillip Schofield, impressed adoring fans with what is thought to be his final UK performance.
The popular artist paid a heartbreaking tribute to his late friend George Michael, who passed away seven years ago.
During his time on stage, Elton said: "You make me feel so happy. I want to thank you for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you have shown me."
"It’s be an immense journey. I have had the best time, I will never forget you. You are in my head, my heart, and my soul. You have been amazing, an incredible crowd tonight. Thank you so much Glastonbury, thank you so much England. I wish you so much health and happiness," the music icon added.
Twitter users took to the social media platform to discuss his "unforgettable" show at the world-renowned festival.
"I’m a casual Elton John fan, but this was a total out of body experience," one fan gushed. "Not sure I’ve recovered."
A fellow Twitter user beamed: "Still feel like I’m dreaming! Made it to the front row to watch the Rocketman himself Elton John @eltonofficial perform his last ever show on the Pyramid Stage at @glastonbury. Life made. An unforgettable set from start to finish."
Although Eltons fans loved his Glastonbury debut, some were a little disappointed with his choice of special guests who joined him.
The legendary songwriter, who is currently embarking on his last tour, was joined by a number of artists to help him sing some of his hits.
But some took to social media to share that they were not impressed.
One person tweeted: #EltonJohn was very good but his special guests were a bit underwhelming & it was kinda weird that he did the Dua Lipa one in his own! #glastonbury2023".
However, some fans loved the show – one person penned: "That was the perfect end to a weekend. Hit after hit. A national singalong with a tribute to#GeorgeMichael along the way. The special guests that#EltonJohn brought out enhanced the set. Fair play to the band. That was sensational#glastonbury2023".
