Coleen Nolan fears she will be publicly judged after her “embarrassing” driving conviction, according to a story in new magazine.
The Loose Women panellist was slapped with a £900 fine after breaking a 30 mph speed limit in Blackpool on 8 July. And a source has now told new that the 58-year-old has been left red-faced and worried about her public image after her sentencing.
“It’s embarrassing for Coleen that it’s all been made public – she doesn’t want everyone knowing her business and judging her,” said the source.
Despite initially pleading not guilty, Coleen decided to change her plea to guilty on the day of the trial at Preston Magistrates’ Court last month. Alongside the fine, she was forced to pay a £360 surcharge to fund victim services and £150 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. She also gained six points on her driving licence.
Coleen has a reputation for speaking her mind on Loose Women and our source claimed she is now worried she will be the subject of jokes.
“She’s worried they will talk or joke about it on the show and that’s humiliating for her,” they said. “Especially as she is always giving a piece of her mind on what other people are up to. She doesn’t like to look bad in public or for people to think that she’s not Miss Perfect any more.”
Meanwhile, Coleen opened up on Loose Women recently, announcing that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer and is undergoing treatment. She developed common skin cancer basal cell carcinoma on her shoulder and two spots of precancerous melanoma on her face.
Originally brushing it off as eczema, Coleen attended a dermatologist appointment for another reason, where it was examined and diagnosed. Coleen said, “I had my coat on and everything, I took my coat off and said, ‘Can you just check this on my shoulder? I think it is a bit of eczema.’ And he said, ‘No, that is basal cell carcinoma – you need to come back in.’”
The diagnosis is particularly difficult for Coleen after three of her sisters have been diagnosed with cancer too. Bernie died from breast cancer in 2013 at the age of 52, while Linda, 64, is battling incurable cancer which has now spread to her brain. Anne, 72, fought breast cancer three years ago and is currently cancer-free.
Coleen’s cancer is one which doesn’t necessarily spread and she assured fans in an Instagram video that she doesn’t have “dangerous skin cancer because I found it in time”. She added, “My whole point of talking about it really was to raise awareness.”
Despite the reassuring words, Coleen, who is mum to Shane, 34, Jake, 30, and Ciara, 22, did admit to her Loose Women colleagues while discussing the diagnosis on the show that it “hits you like a ton of bricks”.
As she soon hopes to put her cancer scare behind her, Coleen will no doubt focus on the positives – including those she’s helped by speaking out about her diagnosis.
Her fellow Loose Women panellist Charlene White followed up on an appointment to find out more about a mark on her leg, having listened to Coleen’s experiences.
