When Emmerdale’s Gabby Thomas (played by Rosie Bentham) gave into temptation and began a secret romance with newcomer to the village Nicky (Lewis Cope), viewers were immediately suspicious about what his possible ulterior motive could be. The charismatic new cast member, who joined the ITV soap last year in his role as a nanny, has set fans’ conversations alight – and, while looking on, Rosie, 21, has found all the fierce speculation hilarious.

“It’s really funny to look at. I don’t think anyone’s got it bang on at the minute,” she divulged to Metro.co.uk.

“No one’s actually thinking that this guy is who he says he is. It’s a soap so who knows, but Gabby definitely sees him as this perfect boy who’s come in and could change her life for the better.”

“Gabby and Nicky are so in love with each other. They’re so smitten at the minute,” the actress continued.

“[She] shocked the viewers with how quickly she flung herself on to Nicky as soon as he walked through the door, but that is very typical Gabby!”

The soap star added that impulsive and lustful behaviour is also typical for Gabby’s mum Bernice Blackstock, who is played by Samantha Giles.

She lamented that, although the mother and daughter’s personalities might be very similar, Gabby will be hoping not to follow in her mum’s footsteps when it comes to luck in love.

Bernice’s track record for past affairs is well documented, including one with a man who was engaged to her half-sister Nicola (Nicola Wheeler).

There’s a chance that Gabby could have more success with her latest love interest, but fans are sceptical.

Nicky isn’t keen for Kim Tate, played by Clare King, to find out about his entanglement with Gabby, which has unfolded while he’s in the village to take care of her two children.

However, next week, the couple’s cover will be blown as Caleb Milligan (William Ash) walks in on them during a moment of passion.

Rosie explained that he’ll catch sight of “overly friendly” behaviour between them, warning that they may be kissing by the time Caleb accidentally interrupts them.

She suggested that audiences might be left on the edge of their seats until next time, as the cliffhanger moment spells the end of the TV episode.

Many theories have circulated on the internet as to Nicky’s true identity, but Rosie has dismissed them all, so mystified fans will now have to wait to see how the action unfolds.
