Emmerdale’s Jay Kontzle teases ‘roller-coaster’ 50th anniversary scenes

Emmerdale is set to mark a huge milestone later this when the ITV soap celebrates its 50th anniversary.

And teasing what we can expect from the scenes coinciding with the anniversary, Billy Fletcher actor Jay Kontzle exclusively told OK! that fans of the show are in for a “roller-coaster ride”.

He said: “It’s going to be incredible. All I can say is it’ll be a roller-coaster ride. It’s a great place to work and I’ve loved being involved with things like Super Soap Week. The plots are always so different and I’ve had some great ones."

From being released from prison and getting involved with a bent copper, to being attacked by Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller), things have been far from easy for the estate manager.

“My character always seems to be around death, which is a bit morbid, but I prefer those high-stakes scenes.

"People might not know this but we film nine to 11 scenes a day and it can be gruelling – but we get through it as a team.”

Jay, 31, joined the Dales back in 2018 as bad boy Billy, and since then his character has been through his fair share of ups and downs.

Away from the screen Jay’s personal life is about to get a whole lot busier too, as he recently exclusively shared with OK! that he and his wife Mimi are expecting their third child together.

“We’ve got an exciting time coming up,” he told us. “I’m going to be really busy before the baby is born but the pregnancy has fallen at a good time, as I’ll only have a few more days in work and then off for Christmas for a few weeks, so I can be around. It’s our first winter baby, so it’s worked out well.”

And when he does get a spare five minutes on set for a break, Jay said he can usually be found nicking sweet treats from the freezer.

“There’s an ice cream freezer and I’m always stealing the ice creams and getting told off, especially when it’s hot,” he laughed.

Jay, who used to be a member of boyband The Mend, who made it the 2012 final of Britain’s Got Talent, continued: “You’re probably only meant to take one but I have a few.

"When I get called out I’m like, ‘What do you mean? This is still my first one!’ even though it’s my third. It’s always a fun time.”
