As the ex England captain and singer got dress for the special occasion they were filmed for their show which aired 20 years ago.

David shook hands with the late monarch when he was made an OBE by the Queen in 2003 for services to football.

Victoria and two of the couple’s sons, Brooklyn and Romeo, as well as David’s grandparents, were in attendance to see him accept the honour.

David told the cameras: ‘It’s quite amazing really because you hear about all the other OBEs through the years and one of them was Bobby Charlton and he was my idol and my dad’s idol.’

‘To hear I was receiving one of them,’ he began. ‘It first hit me when I got a letter that said David Beckham OBE on it. It’s amazing.

‘I was going to take my mum and dad, I know they would appreciate it but I think my nan and grandad, it’s going to be an amazing experience for them. My nan’s a big royal fan so it’s nice for them.’

He went on to recall his previous encounter with Her Majesty: ‘I met the Queen at the Commonwealth Games when I opened that in Manchester. She was lovely.’

Victoria then gushed over her husband: ‘You look so nice; you look so handsome. I reckon you’re going to get the Queen going you know.’

She continued: ‘We are off to the palace and David’s going to get his OBE and we’re very proud of him.’

‘I’m looking forward to it,’ David added as Victoria continued: ‘David’s nan and grandad are really excited.’

‘It’s going to be a really nice day. And then we’re going to have a lunch afterwards. I can’t believe you’re going to be David Beckham OBE.’

‘I know,’ David laughed before Victoria joked, ‘I can’t believe you beat me to it!’

Respect: Sportsman David waited for 13 hours in the five-mile long queue to pay his respects to the monarch after arriving at 2am, and even shed a tear when he reached the inside

Sportsman David waited for 13 hours in the five-mile long queue to pay his respects to the monarch after arriving at 2am, and even shed a tear when he reached the inside.

The father-of-four finally reached the Queen’s coffin about 3.30pm after lining up, and took just a few seconds to bow his head before moving on to make way for the people behind him.

And the stark contrast in Friday plans comes as the rumoured tension between Brooklyn’s family and his wife grows – with recent reports claiming that his parents are ‘devastated’.

In 2014 David was on the verge of becoming a Sir in the New Year’s Honours list until a ‘red flag’ warning from HM Revenue and Customs sunk his nomination.

The former footballer was one of dozens of wealthy celebrities who invested in the controversial Ingenious Media scheme to fund movies and reduce investors’ personal tax liability. HMRC labelled the scheme a tax avoidance vehicle.

But a source has now told the publication: ‘David, like many of the celebs embroiled with Ingenious, had no knowledge of what was going on at the time.

‘His team first proactively approached HMRC almost two years ago, when David made his business independent, and then finally got it all settled, once and for all, this year.’

They continued: ‘In 2013 David was told the only reason he was overlooked for a knighthood was because of the tax fiasco. Now it’s been cleared up, there is absolutely no reason for him not to be honoured.

‘He would obviously be utterly thrilled with a knighthood — but is under no illusions and will only believe it when he sees it.’
