Former EastEnders star Josephine Melville dies backstage after performing in play

Former EastEnders star Josephine Melville has died backstage after appearing in a play in Nottingham.

The actress, best know for playing Tessa Parker in EastEnders in the 1980s, is said to have died following her performance in the production of Nine Night at the Nottingham Playhouse.

Following the tragic news theatre staff at the venue were reportedly left in shock after her death on Friday night (21 October).

Josephine also appeared in The Bill and Casualty, and has been described by the theatre as a "revered and deeply respected performer."
