Michael Owen has criticised an under-18s football coach for making a vile remark about his 19 year old daughter Gemma on the hit ITV dating programme Love Island.
The former professional footballer's eldest child is currently a contestant on the show, where she's made a strong impression after first being coupled up with Liam Llewellyn before getting re-coupled with Davide Saclimenti and is now currently with Luca Bish.
Her 42 year old dad has been open about her time on the show and has even gone as far as to say he doesn't want her kissing anyone – but it was a Twitter comment that enraged him.
"Can't wait to see her getting smashed," Paul Proud, a former Glasgow City FC coach, wrote on his Twitter feed followed by a series of laughing emojis.
The under-18s coach's profile described him as: "Ex Professional Footballer, Scout and Manager, u18 academy Head Coach at Glasgow City Fc."
Michael immediately replied: "What a fine example to set from a man in your responsible position."
Paul has since deleted the comment alongside his Twitter account following the backlash he faced.
Showing their support for Michael, fans immediately commented on the quip as one person wrote: "Some people still live in caves. I'm so sorry you had to see it Michael."
Another said: "There’s a line and he crossed it," followed by a facepalm emoji, while a third added: "You’re a brave Dad. Just ignore the tweets from unworthy people".

It comes after Michael recently slammed viewers who have called his daughter Gemma "rude and too young" after making a comment on Luca's name.
Admitting that Gemma’s mum Louise was “very upset” after reading comments about Gemma online, he said: “To look at my social media feeds you’d think 70 per cent of the world hates me, but it’s different when it’s your daughter."

Michael also pointed out that Gemma's siblings James, 16, Emily, 14, and Jessica, 12 were reading the online criticism.
Revealing the hardest things to read about his daughter had been the digs about her personality, he insisted: "She’s not two-faced. She’s loyal, a decent person," to MailOnline .
