Gorka Marquez's partner Gemma Atkinson has shot down recent claims that the he is leaving Strictly Come Dancing after narrowly missing out on a win in last week’s final.
Rumours began swirling on Friday, that the much loved dancer would be leaving the show in the new year, after seven years of delighting fans with his impressive dance moves.
A source had claimed: "He looked so devastated last week because he knew the final might be his last chance of taking home the Glitterball, which had eluded him twice before."
"Gorka has become an established figure in the contest and a name in his own right, which could allow him to go on to bigger things," they continued to The Sun.
However, in an update shared on Saturday, Gorka’s long term girlfriend Gemma insisted that this is not the case as she hit back at the reports that the dance pro would be waving goodbye to the show he loves.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Gemma shared a screengrab of a news story, quipping: “Keep being sent this. Wish I hasn’t said to all backstage crew 'see you next year' now.”
She then continued: “Obvs this isn’t true at all! Same as it wasn’t true about Gio last year. Merry Christmas!”
Prior to the post, the BBC declined to comment when approached by OK!.
The news comes after Gorka spoke out following the show’s final when some fans claimed that he was caught with an "angry" face when he and dance partner Helen Skelton missed out on the coveted glitter ball trophy.
Gorka clapped as wildlife presenter Hamza Yassin was declared the winner, but appeared to do so with a deadpan expression, something which many viewers commented about on social media.
A few days later, Gorka finally addressed the couple's loss on social media, and congratulated the Hamza and his partner Jowita Pryzstal on their successful victory as he wrote: "The Champs!!! Congratulations to both of you for a great series!! #bravo.”
As well as Helen and Gorka, winner Hamza competed in the final against singer Fleur East and her professional dancing partner Vito Coppola and performer Molly Rainford and her partner Carlos Gu.
