Hairy Bikers share update after Dave Myers stepped back from set due to cancer

The Hairy Bikers’ Si sends congratulations to graduates

Hairy Bikers duo Dave Myers and Si King were taking a “break” from their fast-paced schedule – as the former continues to battle cancer – but now, they have delighted fans by announcing their return on Instagram.

The pair of adrenalin junkies posted a photo of themselves beside a pair of gleaming motorbikes, captioning it with the words: “On set again this week.

“Having a great week. Love Si and Dave,” they signed off, punctuating their feelings about returning to work with starry-eyed and love heart emojis.

Dave, who is 65, announced his cancer journey in May 2022, and this month, he and Si had confirmed they’d be stepping back for a bit during the latest episode of their Hairy Bikers: Agony Uncles podcast.

“Those hardworking Agony Uncles are taking a well-earned break which gives us the chance to look back on a busy year of problem-solving,” they’d explained.

Earlier in the month, Dave had shared an Instagram snap of himself indulging in a spot of outdoor dining with his wife, detailing how he has been spending his time off.

“Took Mrs Myers on a well deserved holiday!” he exclaimed, quizzing fans: “Do you think my smouldering look will impress her?”

Fans were overjoyed to have seen the pair back on-set, ahead of the next instalment of their Hairy Bikers Go West show.

On top of that, they’ve invited fans to preorder their forthcoming book, Ultimate Comfort Food, which shares the pair’s wisdom when it comes to all things edible.

Fans have raved about how their culinary tips have given them greater confidence with their cooking, and now they’re hoping that creating the book may have given Dave back his appetite, after it was previously ravaged by cancer.

He explained last year how his taste-buds changed due to chemotherapy, meaning he could only get interested in unusual food combinations such as “cottage pie with Vimto”.

“Lil [wife Liliana Orzac] is sitting down with a really nice glass of burgundy and I’ve got a pint of Vimto!” the star joked, poking fun at his tastes on an episode of Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time.

Poor Dave added that he wouldn’t wish cancer on his “worst enemy” as the chemo he’d undergone had been “brutal”.

He subsequently revealed to The Times that he is nearing a light at the end of the tunnel, following a mammoth 30 chemo sessions.

“I’ve got one little bit left. They seem to use this phrase now in cancer: ‘It’s ‘turned off,'” he explained.

“Everything is turned off apart from one little bit, and they think that they can turn that last bit off with radiotherapy.”

The Bikers’ 266,000 followers are right behind him, having inundated him with supportive comments in his latest post – and he’s promised they haven’t seen the last of him, after teasing his eagerly-awaited forthcoming projects.
