It’s common knowledge that Disney’s adaptation of The Little Mermaid is out in cinemas everywhere. And if you didn’t know, it’s absolutely smashing it. By that, we mean it’s the number one film in the world right now.
Starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, the stellar lineup and high budget visuals have seen it bring in a whopping $185.8 million already – by far the biggest opening for a Disney live-action film.
For some context, the new version of The Little Mermaid follows the same storyline as the original, just with real human characters this time instead of them being animated.
For reference, IMDb’s official synopsis reads: “A young mermaid makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince.”
While Halle has most likely been celebrating the achievement with lavish Hollywood parties, not to mention attending plenty of press tours and appearances promoting the film, the 23 year old has also made time to catch the movie.
Just in the way every other punter would, too – by heading to her local cinema with a huge box of popcorn.
Of course, being as famous as Halle is, it’s not as easy to just slip under the radar. Which meant a serious disguise was in order.
Taking to TikTok to document the operation, Halle went incognito and donned an oversized black leather jacket, a face mask and some huge black shades to make sure she wasn’t recognised. All tied together with a cute Y2K baguette bag and fluffy black sandals.
The getup seemed to work, too, as during the video, viewers could see Halle walking past excited cinema-goers who had absolutely no idea who she was.
One fan even took a selfie of The Little Mermaid film poster as the real-life Ariel literally walked right past them.
Before entering the theatre to catch the showing, Halle showed the camera her super cute Little Mermaid themed popcorn bucket, which was filled to the brim with the iconic cinema snack.
Upon opening the doors to finally check out her latest work of art, the camera filmed her walking down the theatre aisle before cutting to a snippet of the film.
Halle was then seen waving as she watched the rest of the movie, all while clutching her glow in the dark popcorn bucket.
We wonder how many people have kicked themselves after seeing Halle’s TikTok and realised that she was nonchalantly chilling in the cinema at the same time as them.
