Series creator Alice Oseman and fans of the Netflix show rally around the 18-year-old actor after he makes a brief return to Twitter just to confirm his sexuality.
AceShowbiz -“Heartstopper” star Kit Connor has come out as bisexual. What makes it sad though, the 18-year-old actor felt forced to “out himself” by some so-called fans who “missed the point” of the Netflix series.
Kit made a brief return to Twitter on Monday, October 31 just to confirm his sexuality. “Back for a minute. I’m bi,” he tweeted, before sarcastically adding, “Congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Bye.”
Kit Connor revealed he’s bisexual after feeling forced to come out.
The English actor had previously denounced the micro-blogging site, calling it “silly silly app.” He wrote back in September, “this is a silly silly app. bit bored of it now, deleting twitter :)”
It’s unclear why Kit felt forced to come out, but some people have recently accused the actor of “queerbaiting” on social media. The controversy began after photos emerged of him holding hands with Maia Reficco, his co-star in “A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow“.
Following Kit’s coming-out statement, many have rallied around the London-born star. Alice Oseman, the creator, writer and showrunner of Heartstopper”, lashed out at those who made Kit feel forced to reveal his sexuality.
“I truly don’t understand how people can watch ‘Heartstopper’ and then gleefully spend their time speculating about sexualities and judging based on stereotypes,” he wrote in reply to Kit’s post. “I hope all those people are embarrassed as F**K. Kit you are amazing.”
Another follower reacted, “feel for you Kit, sending all the love i have your way.” A fan tweeted, “Reading tweets like this is heartbreaking… especially when Heartstopper taught so many people around the world the true value of someone’s personal coming out story. I’m so sorry you had this moment taken away from you Kit, but let’s hope people will learn from it!”
Another fan echoed the sentiment, “So sorry you had to do this. You’ve brought so much joy and comfort to so many. Incredibly frustrating some of those people can’t return it. Proud of you!” Someone encouraged the young actor, “im sorry kit i love you with all my heart, you are a wonderful person, you don’t deserve this, love you,” while another chimed in, “the fact some people watched the show and still didn’t get the message 🙁 please give him the biggest hug from us all.”
On the coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama series, Kit plays Nick Nelson, a popular rugby player at Truham Grammar School, who befriends Joe Locke‘s Charlie Spring, a year 10 student at Truham Grammar School who was recently outed. The two develop a romantic relationship though Nick is not officially out.
