As Prince Harry’s new Netflix documentary Heart of Invictus launched its new six episode series on Netflix, the Duke of Sussex has revealed a series of intimate details regarding his mental health.
Speaking in episode two of the show about his return from Afghanistan in 2008, he claimed he wasn't given the appropriate support following his return from war.
"I didn't have that support structure, network or that expert advice to identify what was actually going on with me," he revealed.
"Unfortunately like most of us, the first time you really consider therapy is when you're lying on the floor in the foetal position, probably wishing that you dealt with some of this stuff previously".
Having lost his mother, Princess Diana in August 1997 when he was just 12 years old, Harry regularly opens up about how both he and his brother Prince William dealt with their mother’s tragic passing and the two continue to honour her memory.
A joint statement in July 2021 was posted on what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday as the two brothers commissioned a statue to mark 20 years since Diana's death. It read:
“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy Thank you to Ian Rank-Broadley, Pip Morrison and their teams for their outstanding work, to the friends and donors who helped make this happen, and to all those around the world who keep our mother’s memory alive.”
Harry's wife Meghan Markle also makes a short an appearance in the documentary, where she's seen supporting her panicked husband ahead of his important speech for the Salute to Freedom Gala in New York.
"Haven't done this for a while," Harry says. "I know," replies Meghan before taking her husband’s hand in a loving gesture.
Meghan appears again in the fourth episode of the show, where she can be seen thanking the family and friends of the former soldiers who were taking part. Meghan addressed the crowd with the following speech: "Thank you so much for your service and thank you to all the family and friends who are here supporting you along the way” adding: "Because this is service, this is dedication and this is the Invictus family."
The couple share a deep-rooted connection to The Invictus Games and It was at the wheelchair tennis event in 2017 where Meghan and Harry chose to pose for their first official appearance together.
