Idris Elba is marking his 51st birthday today after being named the Sexiest Man Alive and winning a Golden Globe for his role in Luther, but when he was 46, he took on the new role of Royal DJ.
The actor provided the music for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding reception held at Frogmore House on May 19, 2018.
Idris didn’t disappoint, as he also shared plenty of intimate details from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s celebrations, which were held away from the cameras.
The Hollywood star spilled to ET Canada that Meghan was the life and soul of the party.
He said of the former Suits actress’ “wild” dancing: “I think Meghan was the one that was really like letting it go.

“You know, she was real, she just had a lot of fun – it was her wedding, so she had the greatest time.”
Boasty hitmaker Idris also shed light on the playlist selected by the royal couple, which he enthused featured some “bare tunes”.
“Meghan sent me a playlist with some bare tunes on it,” the Hijack star told BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2019.
“There was some West Coast on it,” he teased of the Los Angeles-born Duchess’ taste in music.

Meghan is said to have added hits to her wedding playlist including Still D.R.E. by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, and Whitney Houston classic I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
The English DJ-turned-actor previously admitted that he thought Prince Harry was “joking” when he first asked him to DJ the wedding of the year.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Idris recalled: “So Harry and I have hung out a couple of times through his dad’s [King Charles] charity – The Prince’s Trust – which helped me out when I was a young actor.
“Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed and he was like, ‘What are you doing on [May 19]?’
“I told him nothing and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding… I was like is this a joke?”
After getting over his shock, Idris then began to feel “pressure” over being behind the decks for the prestigious occasion.
He told host Ellen: “That was an incredible experience. I was curating the music for that night, so it was a lot of pressure, but it was great. A vibe.”
However, Idris has been careful not to overshare about the couple’s wedding reception, as he wants to respect their privacy.
He told The Guardian: “I try not to talk too much about it, because it was a private day, but it remains one of the highlights of my life, for sure.
“It was a beautiful experience, like all weddings are.”
