Inside Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden’s surprise wedding as they sadly confirm split

Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden met on Emmerdale in 2007 and 11 years later the pair tied the knot in front of 100 guests at Ripley Castle near Harrogate.

The couple told friends they would be celebrating the Debbie Dingle star's 30th birthday but turned the event into their wedding.

Surprised guests included Jamie Lomas, who had the honour of giving Charley away, and best friend Lucy Pargeter, who is well-known for playing Chas Dingle.

The couple chose not to have a traditional wedding ditching a formal sit down meal and cutting speeches down.

Charley explained to OK! at the time: "This way we got to do it totally the way we wanted – it wasn’t traditional, we didn’t have a sit-down meal, and there weren’t loads of speeches."

Recalling the moment their friends and family found out about the wedding, Charley said: "That moment when we announced what we were doing and seeing everybody’s reaction is the best moment of my life.

"Someone once told me their friend had a surprise wedding and it stuck in my mind."

Matthew added: "We couldn’t have had a better response. People just screamed for about ten minutes! It’s funny to think that our guests thought they were coming to Charley’s 30th party – then we told them it was our wedding!

"It wasn’t the most traditional wedding, but we wanted it to be different."

For her dress, Charley opted for a white frock with a sheer lace top and flowing skirt, which had a small train.

Matthew meanwhile opted for dark trouser and a velvet suit jacket, which he paired with black Doc Marten boots.

Their two eldest children, Buster and Bowie, were also in attendance and wore cute matching white suits.

Unfortunately, Charley and Matthew have since announced their split, sharing joint statements on their Instagram Story.

Charley posted: "It is with love and respect that Matthew and I have decided to separate.

"We remain friends and our priority is the love for our children.

"For their sake we would appreciate privacy at this time. C x."

Matthew shared the same message on his Instagram story signing off with "M".

Both actors have been seen without their wedding rings in recent weeks and Matthew spoke about how tough their work schedules have been.

Speaking on Loose Women, he said: "Charley's on tour [with the musical, Quiz]. Bless my mum and dad, I owe them a holiday after this run because they've stepped in and moved into the house.

"And they're looking after the kids, so yeah thanks, mum and dad! It's tough. And I'm a real softie with the kids as well.

"I just love being at home with them, to be away from them… I'm counting down the days to the weekend."
