Jean Boht’s cause of death as Bread actress dies at 91

The family of Bread star Jean Boht has announced her death aged 91.

In a statement, they said: “It is with overwhelming sadness that we must announce that Jean Boht passed away yesterday.

“Jean had been battling vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease with the indefatigable spirit for which she was both beloved and renowned.

“She was a resident at Denville Hall, the home for members of the theatrical profession.”

Jean’s death comes just one month after her husband Carl Davis died. 

Jean was best known for the role of Nellie Boswell in the hit sitcom Bread.

She also starred in I Woke Up One Morning, Brighton Belles, Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em, Last Of The Summer Wine and the drama Boys From the Blackstuff.

Tributes have flooded in for the actress on social media.

Dave Lawrence wrote: “R.I.P Jean Boht aka forever as Nellie Boswell.”

Mathew Hulbert commented: “Sad news. I loved ‘Bread’ as a kid. And Jean Boht, as the iconic Nellie Boswell, was its beating heart. RIP.”

Lewis added: “RIP Jean Boht. Fabulous actress, she was brilliant in Boys from the Blackstuff as well as Bread of course.”

Steve Smith typed: “Sad to hear the passing of Jean Boht this morning. Superb comedy and drama performer. RIP.”
