Jonnie Irwin praised as he gives update on ‘exciting new project’ amid cancer battle

Jonnie Irwin, who last year revealed that he is living with a terminal lung cancer diagnosis, has shown off his "exciting new project" as he gets to work renovating his home.

The TV presenter shared a post to Instagram as he discussed his plans for the house. He wrote: "A couple of days late posting this but I promised to be honest with my posts about this renovation- warts n all’ #reno"

In a video, he added: "It's the morning of day one of the renovation of the front of the house."

Showing his house in the background, Jonnie continued: "So as you can see, it's not the prettiest of houses. The plan is to put some different design windows in there."

Continuing to share his plans he added at it will greatly improve both the "look of the house" and that the renovation will create more space inside too.

Jonnie said that although it's only "early days" in the process he's "so excited" to be working on the renovation project.

Fans were quick to praise the star, with one writing: "Property is what you do best apart from being super dad of course – can’t wait to see the results."

"It’s going to be fabulous Jonnie .. can’t wait to see the finished result" added another.

And a third penned: "Jonnie, this is what's driving you because it's your legacy for your family to enjoy for many years. You are a very inspirational man.

"We all love you for your strength and your home may not look the best on the street at the moment but it will when it's finished"

Jonnie previously revealed that he had suffered a nasty fall during the building work, sharing a photo with an ice pack on his ankle to Instagram.

Alongside the image, Jonnie captioned the post: “When you forget the builder has removed your door step…” in a subtle nod to how he had acquired the injury.

Understandably, fans were immediately concerned for the star’s wellbeing, with many taking to the comments section of his post to share their well wishes and urge him to look after himself.

“Oh love please take care of yourself,” begged one fan. While a second follower also echoed the sentiment by writing: “Ouch! Hope your ankle feels better soon.”

Thankfully, the injury occurred after Jonnie had been able to take his son to nursery for the final time on Monday – something which proved to be an especially poignant milestone for the star.
