Kate Middleton convinced ‘Queen was looking down on us’ as 5 rainbows appeared after death

Kate Middleton has been left convinced Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was keeping a close eye on the Royal Family following her death on 8 September.

The Prince and Princess of Wales met with the unsung heroes who helped organise and the late monarch's funeral in Windsor to thank them for their "seamless and extraordinary" operation.

Spending an hour in Windsor Guildhall with the likes of St John's Ambulance crew, Crown Estate staff, council workers and volunteers – Kate offered insight into how the Royal Family held up during the week between the Queen's death and her funeral on 19 September.

Prince William, 40, explained that the family had seen five rainbows above Balmoral during their time in Scotland following Her Majesty's death on the Thursday.

"In Scotland, how many rainbows turned up?" one person questioned. "You hardly ever see rainbows up there, but there were five."

Smiling, Kate shared: "Her Majesty was looking down on us."

The Princess stayed behind in Windsor on the day of the Queen's death, looking after her three children Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and four year old Prince Louis, while her husband flew out to be with his grandmother.

Kate recalled the "extraordinary weather" that day, adding: "Right at the end of the day, the heavens opened."

Later, William could be heard asking: “How difficult was Monday? How challenging was it?”

He then said: “It’s been a busy few days but you guys have been doing long hours as well, so thank you so much.”

The outing marks the first public engagement for the pair since The Queen’s funeral on Monday.

The engagement is also one of their first since William became the heir apparent and became known as the Prince of Wales, after the death of his grandmother and the accession of his father, Charles, to become the King.

Alongside his new role as the heir to the throne, William also inherited the title Duke of Cornwall and is now the Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge, while Kate inherited the title once borne by William’s mother Princess Diana, as she became the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge.

The Wales’ aren’t the only ones to be spending time thanking staff involved in the funeral either, as both Prince Edward and Princess Anne are also undertaking similar assignments on Thursday.

Just three days on from bidding a final farewell to his mother, The Earl of Wessex visited Estonia and Germany in his role as Royal Colonel of 2nd Battalion of The Rifles and Royal Honorary Colonel of the Royal Wessex Yeomanry.

This trip includes thanking members of 2 Rifles for their service to the Queen at Camp Tapa, Estonia, and visiting troops on deployment from the Royal Wessex Yeomanry at the Normandy Barracks in Paderborn, Germany.

The Princess Royal meanwhile, set off to Portsmouth Naval Base to meet Royal Navy personnel who took part in the funeral procession earlier this week.
