Kate Middletons brother cancels his anniversary celebrations as mark of respect to Queen

Kate Middleton's brother James has decided against celebrating his first wedding anniversary to Alizée Thevenet as a mark of respect to the late Queen, who died aged 96 on Thursday, 8 September.

James, 35, instead posted a sweet photograph of the then Princess Elizabeth on her wedding day to Prince Phillip, when she was just 21 and he was 26.

Alongside the snap, the brother of the Princess of Wales wrote: "Today is our 1st wedding anniversary, however it doesn’t seem right to celebrate while mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II.

"Instead I’m sharing a photo of the marriage of the Queen & the Duke of Edinburgh on their wedding 74 years ago."

Addressing his wife, he went on: "To my darling Alizee I look forward to sharing as many with you in our lifetime".

A huge dog lover, James chose some beautiful photos of the late Queen with her beloved Corgis as he paid tribute to her following her death last week.

Clearly emotional, he wrote: "Queen Elizabeth II, the epitome of steady grace, resolve and reassurance.

"Our constant in a world of change. Thank you for a lifetime of service & leadership."

Kate and James' parents Carole and Michael Middleton also paid tribute to the Queen following the news of her death via a post on their Party Pieces’ social media page, where they referenced her enduring 70-year reign and described her passing as a time of “great sadness.”

The post, which was shared alongside a smiling image of the monarch one day after the news of her death first broke, read: “RIP Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

“For over 70 years she dedicated her life to service for the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

“We offer our heartfelt sympathy to The Royal Family at this time of great sadness.”

James married the "love of his life", Alizée, in a secret ceremony in the South of France last year.

The entrepreneur, 35, who is the younger brother of the Princess of Wales, 40, and Pippa Middleton, 39, revealed to his 212,000 Instagram followers that he had tied the knot "surrounded by friends, family and of course a few dogs" on Saturday 11 September, 2021.

Posting a sweet snap of the newlyweds to his Instagram, James penned: "Mr & Mrs Middleton.

"Yesterday I married the love of my life surrounded by family, friends and of course a few dogs in the beautiful village or Bormes-les-Mimosas. Words cannot describe how happy I am."

This week, OK! celebrates the life of Her Majesty the Queen with a commemorative special in honour of Britain’s longest reigning monarch. Be sure to pick up your copy.
