Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos slammed for ‘three-day work week’

Mark Consuelos, 52, made his hosting debut on Monday with eagle-eyed fans keeping a close watch on the newcomer.

The retitled show, which was formerly Live with Kelly and Ryan, indicates that Mark is here to stay, but just four days into his run fans are fuming.

Thursday’s show harboured a surprise for viewers when an on-screen notice revealed the show had been pre-recorded.

This was not what fans were expecting, as the show’s title indicates a live on-air episode, and The New York Post claimed that Friday’s episode will likely follow suit giving the couple a three-day work week.

Some enraged viewers took to Twitter to vent their frustrations as one declared: “So, Live with Kelly and Mark isn’t really ‘live’ huh…Life must be good to only have to work 3 days a week!”

Another declared: “The show is getting closer and closer to landing after jumping the shark, we are on show number 4 and we are already prerecording episodes.”

The pair have received great support since Mark’s debut, with many viewers fawning over the “adorable” chemistry between them, as one fan explained: “I Love the couple co-host idea. They compliment each other so beautifully, it’s refreshing to see!” (sic)

However, this is not an uncommon practice for the show which has aired five days a week for the last three decades.

During the six years that Ryan Seacrest sat alongside Kelly, the pair would sometimes have to pre-record episodes in order to accommodate Ryan’s conflicting schedule as host of American Idol.

It was reported that Ryan’s final episode on Friday last week was also pre-recorded.

Kelly has sat been a steadfast presence for audiences for over two decades while co-hosts have come and gone.

The show originally featured the late Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford as co-presenters from 1998, titled Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.

Kathy left at the turn of the millennium and Kelly arrived in 2001, changing the title to Live with Regis and Kelly, hosting alongside Regis for a decade.

Following Regis’ exit, former football player Michael Strahan joined for four brief years, with the show now titled Live with Kelly.

In 2017 the presenter was joined by Ryan who also became an executive producer of the show until his exit just last week.
