Kerry Katona froze as DJ’s biological grandad contacted her after George Kay’s death

Kerry Katona has revealed she got "the shock of her life" after her late husband George Kay’s biological father got in contact with her after his death.

Writing in her new autobiography Whole Again, Kerry describes how he contacted her via social media in October 2021 after only just learning about the passing of his son.

George, who was adopted as a baby and wasn't in contact with his biological dad, died in July 2019. An inquest in August 2021 found that the former rugby player died after eating a ball of cocaine in his room at a Holiday Inn.

Kerry, 42, explained that his dad wrote to her in a bid to get to know his biological granddaughter, her eight year old daughter Dylan-Jorge.

She wrote: “It was late October in 2021 when I got the shock of my life. It’s not every day your dead husband’s biological dad reaches out to make contact with you and at a point where I finally felt settled, it came as a huge surprise.“

The former Atomic Kitten singer goes on to describe how she was going through her message requests on social media when one caught her eye and the picture was “hauntingly” familiar.

She said: "I froze. My stomach churned and I thought for a second I was going to throw up. I peered at the picture on the message a little longer. It was the spitting image of George. I might as well have been contacted by his ghost via DM."

Kerry went on to say that after exchanging messages and speaking to him via FaceTime, she finally decided to let him speak to DJ, as she felt it was important for her to learn about her father's heritage.

But after a string of regular chats, Kerry now admits she hasn't heard from him again.

"I so want DJ to have all the answers he could provide her, but I won’t get her hopes up in case he’s gone for good too, just like her Daddy," she adds. "I don’t want her to deal with another man disappearing forever."

Elsewhere in the memoir, Kerry opens up about the abuse she suffered at the hands of ex George and how his behaviour made her fear for her family’s safety.

Speaking ahead of the launch, our columnist told us it has been “traumatic to re-live” the previously untold stories.

“It’s been really hard, my anxiety has been through the roof,” she said to OK!. “I’ve been stuck in the past, feeling full of anxiety and fear.”

One of the subjects that causes her the greatest anxiety is her marriage to George.

Kerry’s book details her suffering at the hands of her ex, who died in 2019 at the age of 39 following a drug overdose.

Kerry, who married George in 2014, recalls how he would spit on her, strangle her and hit her while she was pregnant with Dylan-Jorge – and then tell her it was her fault.

“George has such a hold on me, even in death,” she says, with a look of sadness. “I still feel scared he’s going to get me. He was so manipulative and calculated. I’m also very aware George is dead and he isn’t here to voice his side of the story. But this is all fact – and it’s my truth."
