Kerry Katona speaks out after branding ex Brian McFadden a ‘s*** dad’

Celebs Go Dating: Kerry Katona wells up over Brian McFadden

Kerry Katona caused a stir last week when she criticised Westlife’s Brian McFadden, whom she was married to from 2002 until 2006, and his parenting of their two children Molly, 22, and Lilly, 20.

In a new column, the 42-year-old mum-of-five has doubled down on her claims but added that she wishes “nothing but the best” for her ex-husband.

She wrote: “I was with him a million years ago and wish nothing but the best for him and his family. I wasn’t saying it in a bad way or to be vindictive.

“While he wasn’t a good father to Molly and Lilly, he’s now grown up and is an amazing dad to his daughter Ruby.

“I don’t want to cause awkwardness between my girls and their dad and wish him the best. I’m true to myself and my story, and he’s part of that. I don’t want to be nasty. I’m on a different journey now,” she added for OK! Magazine.

Brian’s representatives declined to comment when contacted by Express.co.uk.

Last week, the Atomic Kitten star branded Brian a “s*** dad” during an appearance on Ellie McKay’s On A Mission podcast.

Reflecting on their split, Kerry claimed Brian did not support his children financially when they were growing up, saying said: “I’m the one who provides for them, I didn’t get maintenance money off Brian…

“I said, ‘Look, if you don’t want me, if you don’t love me, I don’t want your money, just give me half the money from the house that we sell and I will sign a piece of paper, just give me my kids’.

“I signed the piece of paper, I got the kids, and he f****d off to Australia.”

Brian previously confessed he regrets “not being there as much” for Molly and Lilly during the height of his fame with Westlife.

He told Closer in 2022: “We were literally working 365 days a year and there was no FaceTime so I couldn’t speak to the kids.

“I could only see them when I came home. So, it was a lot harder and I missed out on a lot of the stuff that I would have loved to have seen with the girls.”

Brian also said that he has a much better relationship with the girls now they are older and added that co-parenting with Kerry had become easier.

He said: “It’s very easy to co-parent now our children aren’t kids anymore. It was obviously a lot more difficult when they were growing up. Kerry and I didn’t have a very good relationship from the day we broke up until now, really, but it’s been a long time.”
