Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper sent the rumour mill into overdrive following their chemistry-filled performance as Ally and Jackson in the 2018 version of A Star Is Born. Speculation was heightened when the pair took to the stage for a captivating rendition of their award-winning song, Shallow, at the 2019 Academy Awards.
The performance began with the pair taking to the stage hand-in-hand and sitting at opposite sides of a piano.
Towards the final part of the song, Bradley joined Gaga on the piano stool and they sang into the same microphone as she rested her head on Bradley’s shoulder.
The electrifying performance led people to become certain that the A-listers were an item, and even more so when they split from their respective partners.
Gaga broke off her engagement to talent agent Christian Carino after two years together just one week before the Oscars.
Bradley and his partner Irina Shayk also split four months later after four years together. The pair also share a daughter, Lea, who is now five.
Nevertheless, both Gaga and Bradley have spoken out and explained that their red-hot chemistry was nothing more than good acting.
Speaking to Oprah in 2020, Gaga said that they “did a really good job at fooling everyone”.
In a separate chat with the host for Elle in 2019, Gaga added: “We made a love story. For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love.
“We wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars, we worked hard on it, we worked for days. We mapped the whole thing out—it was orchestrated as a performance.”
Oprah added that she had also quizzed Bradley on whether there was a glimmer of romance between the pair.
The iconic presenter said that Bradley told her if he did have feelings for Gaga: “He never would have been able to look [her] in the eye sitting at that piano.”
In a separate chat, Bradley admitted that he actually choreographed the steamy Oscars performance in a bid to manage his stage fright.

He told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021: “Just from a personal standpoint, it reduces the anxiety level.
“[Ally and Jackson] kind of fall in love in that scene in the film. It’s that explosive moment that happens to happen to them on a stage in front of thousands of people. It would have been so weird if we were both on stools facing the audience.”
Nevertheless, the actors did have love for each other, albeit platonic.
Describing their first meeting, Gaga told Time Magazine in 2018: “From the moment we met, I felt a kindred spirit in him.
“As soon as I heard him sing, I stopped dead in my tracks. I knew he could play a rock star. Actually, he’s the only actor on the planet who could play this one.”
They remained firm friends and delighted fans when they reunited at the SAG Awards in February.
Following her role in A Star Is Born, Gaga went on to play the lead in Ridley Scott’s House Of Gucci.
She has also confirmed that she will star as Harley Quinn in the second Joker film alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
It is understood that production will begin in December and the movie is scheduled to be released in October 2024.
