Kym Marsh gets ice cream tattoo tribute for dad after incurable cancer diagnosis

Kym Marsh has unveiled a poignant new tattoo in tribute to her beloved dad, Dave, on Father's Day.

The Coronation Street star and TV presenter celebrated her 47th birthday on 13 June and treated herself to a striking new tattoo, but chose Father's Day as the perfect moment to show it to her dad.

Dave has been diagnosed with incurable cancer and Kym, who has been supporting her dad through treatment, shared a video on Instagram of the touching moment she revealed her new ink to her family.

Kym's tattoo is of an ice cream cone and is on the inside of her right forearm, which she covered in the video as she explained to her dad that she had a surprise to show off.

Explaining in the post caption why the design was so meaningful, Kym wrote: "So…..I’ve had a new tattoo for my dad!!! Since his incurable cancer diagnosis he has been obsessed with ice cream! He literally has one every day! So I got an ice cream on the inside of my fore arm for him to remind me of my wonderful dad, Every time I look at it!! He’s the best ever! Love you dad"

Kym's video showed her enjoying a family Father's Day gathering with Dave, where she took the opportunity to unveil her tattoo.

She said: "Because I never normally treat myself to anything on my birthday, I thought what would mean more to me than anything in the world?

"So I decided to give myself a little reminder of you."

Dave asked: "Of me…?" and looked delighted as she showed the ice cream design.

He laughed and joked: "Mine aren't as good as them!"

Kym also posted a close up snap of the tattoo, as well as a photo of herself at the tattoo parlour with tattoo artist Jess Wright.

She wrote: "Thank you so much @jesswright_tattoo for my wonderful tribute to my dad @daveyboy113 this was paid for and not an advert in any way but oh boy is she a wonderful tattoo artist!!! back soon Jess"

Kym has previously shared her devastation at her dad's diagnosis and in October, showed an emotional video to her social media followers of Dave starting a new type of treatment.

She wrote: "Although he will never get to ring the end of treatment bell to mark the end of his journey with cancer, he got to ring it to mark the beginning of a new journey of hope and to give him a chance to say… I’m fighting back.

"It was a truly emotional moment and he wanted me to share this video with you all to encourage anyone living with cancer, or the families and friends around them, to stand up and fight, never lose hope and make those little moments mean the most. This day meant the world to dad and it will be a day we never forget."
