Laverne Cox in Jean Paul Gaultier at the Emmys: fun and unique?

Laverne Cox and Loni Love did a great job hosting the red carpet on E! last night. As Kaiser tweeted, there were good vibes on the Emmys carpet and they definitely contributed to that. Laverne was in this costume look Jean Paul Gaultier dress designed by Olivier Rousteing. It was weird and fashion-forward yet retro. Another actress may have looked goofy in it, but she pulled it off.

Emmy Award winner Lizzo was in Giambattista Valli, in a giant poof of a red tulle gown. Do you remember Rihanna’s iconic pink gown at the 2015 Grammys? That was also Giambasttista Valli. Lizzo won for Best cCompetition Program, for Watch Out for the Big Girls, and her speech, below, was so heartwarming. She talked about the importance of representation and telling everyone’s stories and called out to her big girls in the audience! I’m so happy for her!

Sarah Paulson was nominated last night and she co-presented the Governors Award with Shonda Rhimes. That went to the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which has done groundbreaking work on representation of girls and women in media. Sarah wore Louis Vuitton. This was a big look and I liked the idea of it, but the execution – with the giant trailing grommet belt – is a little off. Also I don’t like her hair that way. Sorry! I like a whispier pixie.

Presenter HoYeon Jung was also in Louis Vuitton, in a dress that reads like Chanel at first. I think that’s due to the print because Chanel would find a way to screw up this gorgeous sleek gown. I love seeing her on the red carpet as she’s a model and it shows. I wish that Squid Game won more awards last night, but I think that the fact that it came out a year ago worked against it. Squid Game did win Best Directing – Drama and Lee Jung-Jae won Lead Actor.
