She may have risen to fame when she won Love Island with her now husband Nathan Massey back in 2016, but Cara De La Hoyde has shockingly revealed that she no longer actually watches the show that launched her career.
When we caught up with the star and asked if she still tuned in, she told us: “No. We used to, but I just think, ‘I’m 32 now, I can’t be watching 18-year-olds in bikinis trying to put it on people.’
"I do check in, but I’ve got two children and it’s on every night. I can’t commit to that!”
Cara, who’s mum to Freddie, four, and Delilah, two, goes on to tell us that she think the show has also changed a lot since she and Nathan, 30, appeared on it and that the contestants now have different expectations in terms of their future careers.
“It is a different show. No one knew what was going to come out of it [when she was on it] and we were there to have a laugh. We thought we might get a couple of PAs and be back at work in six weeks, so we can’t believe, six years later, people still take an interest in me and Nathan. We are so grateful.”
Cara goes on to say that the contestants who take part today expect much more.
“It’s such a big thing now that I think it would be hard for people to go in there with the same intentions we had. People know what you can get from it.
"This country is a hard place to live in at the moment, so if young people can go on there and better their life, then fair play to them.”
And despite forming strong bonds with her fellow contestants, such as Olivia and Alex Bowen, who also married after meeting on the same series in 2016, Cara admitted last year that there are lots of people from the show that she no longer speaks to.
Former BFF’s Cara and Olivia famously fell out around the time of Olivia’s wedding in 2018 when Cara was famously dropped as her bridesmaid, but the two have since buried the hatchet.
However, Cara says that in terms of some of the others, it’s a case of life moving on. She explained: "It's not that I don't speak to them or go out my way not to. But as I'm sure many parents can understand, people's lives and interest change.
“I'm sure none of my fellow Islanders would be that bothered about me telling them about what nappies I'm using for Delilah or how Mr Tumble has a new spotty bag!”
