Love Island’s Scott van-der-Sluis reveals when he got offer for US show after backlash

Love Island star Scott van-der-Sluis recently caused a stir among fans as he signed up to take part in the US version of the show, just weeks after being dumped from the villa.

The 22 year old star, shocked viewers last week when he made his debut on the American show, mere days after having seemingly reconciled with his potential love interest Catherine Agbaje.

Given the timing of his reunion with Catherine and his entrance to the US villa, many fans were understandably confused (and a little annoyed) that he was willing to throw away a potential blossoming romance to go in search of pastures new.

However, a spokesperson for Scott has now confirmed that the decision to appear on the show was actually made just days after he was dumped from the UK villa on 26 July after failing to find a strong connection with any of this year’s contestants.

Posting on Instagram from Scott’s official account, a statement read: “There’s been a lot of rumours circulating, but Scott got asked a few days after leaving the UK villa and had to make a decision within 24 hours so by the time of the re-union it was signed, sealed and all other islanders were aware and supportive of his decision.”

Following his decision to return, several of his fellow Islanders have publicly spoken in support of his second attempt at love, with this year’s winner Sammy Root confessing that he was fully supportive of his villa pal’s quest for romance.

"What do I think of Scott in Love Island USA?” He told his TikTok followers. “You’ve got to rate it. He’s working hard.”

Tyrique Hyde was also supportive as he told the Welshman to “Go do us proud”.

Even Kady McDermott was surprisingly on board with the decision after previously coming to blows with Scott in the villa, as she told her followers: "I was like ‘Scottisha! Scottisha!’ Best of luck to him and I said that to him.”

She then continued: "You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do but, people say and think what they want about me but one thing is that I never lie. I never lie.”

One person who did remain noticeably tight lipped however was Catherine Agbaje.

The pair had previously been coupled up during their time in the villa, but soon hit the rocks after Catherine’s head was turned during Casa Amor. Unable to sustain their romance, the pair soon parted ways and Scott was subsequently dumped from the villa.

However, in recent weeks the pair had been spotted looking particularly close and even seriously hinted at rekindling their relationship – or so we thought.

Scott himself even previously admitted he would be open to exploring a relationship with her, as he exclusively told OK! "Obviously we care for each other and we're really good friends…" before adding he would “Never say never” to a reunion.
