Lucy Fallon takes a tumble while leaving Inside Soap Awards with Corrie co-star

Corrie star Lucy Fallon is well-known for navigating the cobbles, but it was a different story at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday, when she took a tumble, virtually falling into her taxi.

Earlier that night, the 27-year-old had stunned on the red carpet in a bright, low-cut, red strapless mini dress, teamed with a pair of red satin heels with a 3D flower detail on each toe.

The perilous high heels, which were laced up to her ankle, could have been the culprit behind her embarrassing stumble after she left London’s Salsa Temple following the star-studded showbiz party.

She’d left the venue while holding hands with on-screen mum Tina O’Brien, 40, who looked equally sensational in her own glamorous outfit – a pink dress with a giant flower corsage.

Lucy quickly recovered her composure, giving photographers a sheepish smile as she sat inside her taxi waiting to hit the road.

Sadly for the cast, Coronation Street missed out on the prestigious title of Best Soap, as that honour fell to EastEnders for the second year running.

Although the show continues to maintain a loyal audience of millions of viewers, figures have dropped in recent months as fans turn to online sites for a wider variety of programmes.

Less than a year ago, former Corrie actor Charlie Lawson, who was popular in his role as Jim McDonald, admitted he had grave concerns about the future of the soap.

He told the Daily Star: “I was there in the Nineties for 11 years and we were getting between 16 and 20 million – and five million (viewers now) is not a lot.”

Charlie continued: “In 10 years, who knows if we will have a Coronation Street? We’re all changing our viewing habits as it is already.”

In spite of that, Corrie netted several awards last night, including the Best Show-Stopper gong for its gripping acid attack storyline.

The scenes saw a possessive stalker, who’d been harassing influencer Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), hurling acid over Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott), leaving him scarred, and later turning to selling his body online.

Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn Plummer, won the award for Best Comic Performance, while Channique Sterling-Brown (Dee-Dee Bailey) scooped the accolade for Best Newcomer.

Meanwhile, Todd Boyce, who plays murderous Stephen Reid, was voted the Best Villain, as viewers remain on the edge of their seats to find out whether he will finally be exposed.

Despite not winning an award herself, Lucy was all smiles as she left the venue after a night of celebration.

Lucy became a new mum to baby boy Sonny back in January following a previous “traumatising” and “horrendous” miscarriage.

She has been dating her 24-year-old boyfriend Ryan Ledson, a Preston North End footballer, for two and a half years after being introduced by friends.

Lucy Fallon returns to TV screens as Corrie’s Bethany Platt later in the year, following a three year break from the show.
