Maisie Smith and Max George slammed for disgusting pregnancy post

Strictly Come Dancing’s Maisie Smith published a photo of herself cradling what looked suspiciously like a baby bump, while her shocked-looking boyfriend Max George stood beside her, appearing to put his hand over his mouth in shock.

However, fans quickly realised that there was no big announcement and that former Eastenders star Maisie was actually expecting a “food baby”.

The braless star had been wearing a tight bodycon dress which accentuated every curve, and so after a huge meal, she was looking a little more bloated than usual.

Maisie had teased cryptically: “We’ve got some really exciting news”, which revved up fans who thought she might be giving birth to her first child.

She also placed a huge heart emoji in front of her belly, so no one could see clearly what was beneath.

The mischief maker then admitted it was a “food baby”, quipping: “I just had the best five course meal of my life.”

However, many of their fans found the joke “insensitive” as they took to Twitter to blast them.

Steph wrote: “Pregnancy jokes are not, and never will be funny. You’ve hurt many people, fans, with those thoughtless stories tonight. People who have lost children. People who cannot conceive for whatever reason. Please do better.”

Amy added: “Max George and Maisie Smith are so insensitive for that,” and Kiki echoed: “As someone on the waiting list for IVF not knowing if I’ll ever be a mother, I am disgusted by @maisie_smith_ and @MaxGeorge idea of a ‘joke’. Unbelievable insensitive and delusional.”

Just days earlier, Maisie had told the world that her The Wanted star boyfriend is “the one”.

The pair started dating in 2022, after originally meeting while competing on Strictly Come Dancing two years earlier and becoming close during a cast and crew trip to Portugal.

Romance blossomed in the sunshine, and Maisie has now declared her love for the singer, saying she sees “so much” of her future with him.

The pair have come under fire after some judgmental fans questioned the 13 year age gap between 21-year-old Maisie and 34-year-old Max.

However, both are adamant that the age difference is irrelevant to them, with Max revealing he was “in awe” of her life achievements and looks up to her even though she’s younger.

Maisie confessed to Hello! magazine that she’s living the dream, elaborating: “When I get off a train, Max will be standing on the platform with a bouquet of flowers and I feel like I’m in a movie. It’s every girl’s dream and I’ve found it in Max.”

She also defended that she has friends who are in their 30s and 40s, including some who are decades older, so the relationship with Max doesn’t feel unusual to her.

Her loved-up beau was full of public praise for her when she was starring as Fran in Strictly Ballroom: The Musical, posting glammed-up photos of her from behind the scenes, so perhaps it’s little wonder that Maisie feels the pair are still in their “honeymoon phase”.

They have only been officially dating for a matter of months so far, but it seems clear that they’re both smitten.
