Margot Robbie’s sweet gift for mom’s 60th birthday after big break in Hollywood

Margot Robbie discusses faking her own death

Margot Robbie explained that one of the first things she did after skyrocketing to fame in The Wolf of Wall Street was paying off all of the debts she owed her mum in 2014.

The 33-year-old shocked her physiotherapist mum when she decided to go into acting, but Sarie supported her daughter regardless, even borrowing cash against her house’s mortgage to lend to Margot during the first years of her career.

As Margot started gaining notoriety in her native Australia, she catapulted to fame with her Hollywood breakout role on The Wolf of Wall Street – but she never forgot what her mother did for her.

Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning following the success of her latest hit Barbie, the actress revealed: “Everything I owed my mom, I had it written down.

“She’d take money out of the, like, house mortgage (to) lend me money. So I always knew I gotta pay that back.”

One year after starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot made good on her promise, paying off not just what her mother had lent her but also her entire mortgage for her 60th birthday.

Margot added: “Honestly, anyone in my position, you’d do that for your mom. Of course you would.”

Her 2013 breakout role brought her biggest paycheque yet, roughly $347,000 according to News 5 Cleveland, but also had some downsides for the then-23-year-old starlet.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the actress explained that the overnight stardom she got through the film was difficult to deal with, saying it was a “pretty awful” time in her life.

She recalled: “I remember saying to my mum; ‘I don’t think I want to do this’ and she just looked at me, completely straight-faced, and was like; ‘Darling, I think it’s too late not to’.

“That’s when I realized the only way was forward.”

Margot added that she has since learned how to deal with her fame, learning things like how to walk through an airport without drawing a crowd and dealing with paparazzi but still isn’t entirely comfortable with her public-facing work.

She explained that as an actress her “highs are really high, and the lows are really, really low”, all of which she has to ride out in the public eye.

Sarie rarely makes public appearances alongside her A-list daughter, but when the doting duo are together on a red carpet they are absolutely inseparable, showcasing their undeniable bond.
