Martin Roberts thanks fans as he gives health update
Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts has detailed what led up to the crew finding a “dead body” while filming the show.
The BBC programme has aired for over two decades, with Martin, 60, appearing in more than 1,000 episodes.
Over the past 20 years, he has travelled over half a million miles around the country to see houses snapped up at auction and the often desperate state of repair they have been left in.
But one is undoubtedly more memorable than the rest. While filming at a property in Cumbria, the presenter recalled how the crew found a “dead body” after the director went into one of the bedrooms.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Martin has now shared the “complications” that led to the startling moment.

He detailed: “The director went into the house and came out absolutely ashen. She said, ‘There’s a dead body in the bed.’
“We thought, ‘Well that’s a first’. People leave furniture but not dead bodies.”
After tiptoeing into the bedroom, he confirmed: “Sure enough, lying underneath a white sheet was a body.”
Martin continued: “Then the body started snoring. When we nudged it an old guy sat bolt upright in bed and said, ‘Where’s my family?’”

After confirming that the person was actually still alive, Martin said: “There had been complications with the completion of the sale and on the morning we arrived.”
He details how the family had left in such a rush they’d “forgotten to take grandad with them”.
Meanwhile, Martin is also convinced that some of the places he has filmed are haunted.
He admitted that on a “handful” of occasions he wanted to get out and stop filming.
Talking about a property in Warrington, Cheshire, which he described as looking like The Addam’s Family house, he claimed it was full of security cameras.
He was interviewing in a bedroom when a lightbulb fell out the ceiling. Instead of the it landing “where gravity should have taken it, the bulb fell down in an arc”.
Martin added: “The estate agent told us afterward that the previous owner had died in the room we had been in and he had been paranoid about intruders, which is why he had all the security cameras.
“The dead man really didn’t like us being there. And he told us.”
